Utah Discussion Thread

#1 Post by fisherjb » 27 Dec 2018 14:52

It isn't 100% confirmed yet but with the hints we've got it's prety obvious in my eyes that Utah is one of the two dlcs that will release in 2019. So after seeing the new washington thread by heroictrucker I knew what to do ;)
So we can talk about this upcoming dlc here :)

But first my thoughts: I'm really happy that Utah is one of the dlcs for next year. It makes the map more square and it is in my eyes one of the most beautiful states in America (after Colorado). The rock formations are beautiful and the salt flats are really cool in my eyes. One thing that most people get wrong about utah is that thry think it's mostly desert, but it really isn't. Utah has a lot of mountains around salt lake city and some nice forest in the southwest. I will update this post with beautiful videos about Utahs nature later :)

[Edit] So it's time for some video's :)

First one is the I-84 around salt lake city. This road shows why Utah isn't just another desert state, it has lot's of green mountains :)

The next video shows more greenery in Utah on the I-70. It's the beginning of this huge interstate and it goes through a lot of nice scenery.
Video through fishlake national forest : https://youtu.be/u4i13dUN6FE

The third video is also on the I-70 (it's just a gorgeous interstate, also going through Colorado) . This video shows the San Rafuel Swell and it looks stunning

The last one shows one of the most beautiful road in America, it's scenic byway 12. I don't know if it's going to be part of the next dlc but if it is, it will be amazing!

I'm pretty exited for more of I-15 and another state that allows LCVs such as turnpikes and Rocky Mountain doubles.

Here is what some of the I-15 connection from Las Vegas, NV to Utah looks like:

Here is a what a good chunk of I-15 in Utah looks like as well:

I'm also super exited to have the Western beginning of I-70 in ATS:

I'd like to chip in with a vid of the "missing link"... technically it's not Utah, but Northwest Arizona between NV and UT. One of the most awesome parts of going from Vegas to Salt Lake.

Virgin River gorge on I-15, the most interesting part is from about 2:40 to 4:00 of the (timelapse!) video, though there's a second narrower gorge near the end.

What I like the most about Utah is the fact that it will bring some very exciting places from Nevata such as the Monument Valley and the I15 along the Virgin River valley.

I livd in Utah till I was 18. Scenery varies based on time of year. From Nephi northward certain mountain peaks will have snow on them in June sometimes and it can start to snow up in mountains in mid August again. I was couple miles from Hill AirForce base growing up you see fighter jets flying and doing certain maneuvers in the sky during summer.

With Utah I-15 a lot of it is suburbs till Nephi southward then it open valleys mix of sagebrush or greenery depending on elevation. The big elevation changes happen from St George to Ceder City along I-15 gain 3000ft in elevation 50 miles. US-89 is vital road to Utah as you get canyon passes to small towns along it. I-70 get some surreal scenery you will never see in any other state like San Rafael Swell then more eye candy in Colorado.

@fisherjb. Looks like you did what you needed indeed, lol. Glad I convinced ya to start her up. EASY subscribe for me. When I started the "Which state do you want next " poll, Utah was always my first pick. It lead the polls last year and its a landslide this year. Utah was needed. Its that key state that we are missing. I am thrilled to know it will finally become reality in 2019 (hopefully). I only watched the first video in your post fisherjb and I had to comment right away without seeing the other yet. I will get to the others shortly. I freakin love Jim's video. I know he does a lot around the US, but I had no idea the I-84 to I-80 was so spectacular. Looking at Google Maps in satellite view, Utah mostly seems like desert. Looking at Utah with Bing Map and it is a big difference. There is so much greenery on the main Interstates than what Google makes it out to be. Looking at Jim's video proves that.

In the 1-84 to 1-80 video, that route has me super pumped. Although Idaho is not coming until hopefully next year, what we will get is going to be bad ass. If you guys don't have a steering wheel, GET ONE. Save up or get a cheap or something, lol. Utah is going to be a pleasure to drive. The amount of twist and turns is what I been waiting for. Heck all of the Rocky Mountain states is what I look forward in the most. I know the 1:20 scale will hurt but hopefully SCS can still pull of numerous curves and elevation changes to depict real life as best as they can. That first video was awesome. Thanks for sharing. It make me want even more. I had no idea there was that much green until that video and changing over to Bing Maps showcases Utah much better. I think SCS uses Google Maps so that is what I had switched over to. I had been using Bing up until this past Spring. I am going back to Bing Maps. Most of the Bing Maps roads shows them running along a lot of green mountains.

fisherjb, did you share any of these video is the public research thread. SCS needs to see these video. I am sure this thread you just created will get watched as well in conjunction with the research thread. I know Carthoo will see it....Hi Carthoo, lol. Although I just seen the first video (for now) I am convinced that Utah will be awesome.....freakin' awesome. I wanted it before Washington last year and I want it before Washington this year. Utah sets us up perfect for Colorado which will be equally impressive. I can't wait to start seeing progress on Utah. The mountains are coated in green. The elevations, the blind corners, the far away mountain ranges will all be pretty cool to see. Not to mention the iconic Salt Flats and Monument Valley. The scenes, videos and threads like this is what keeps me pumped. I love the energy behind SCS news on what they will be working on or what's coming. It's hard for me to not get hyped when good stuff like this is coming.

Alright, time to go home and watch the other videos. It is now 7:30pm for me. I stopped working like and hour ago just playing around on this forum checking comments that I am subscribed to. Wasn't many so that is when I normally go back thru the General Discussions to see if anyone created anything new.....and waa laa.....the Utah discussion was made. I look forward in seeing all the input that gets pumped into here. I visited Salt Lake City once for a business trip to Frank and Mier Department store back in like 2002. I am not sure if it is still there but anyways, it was my first siting in person of snow capped mountains. Man what a scene. I wanted more but since I was on business, there was little I could do to get more viewing in. I probably won't make it back no time soon so getting Utah in ATS will be as close as I can get for now. My wheel and 18 speed shifter is ready for those down grades. Bring on Utah baby! Utah....you are the next contestant on the price is right.....dlc, lol. $11-12 bucks will be justified if SCS gives us the real Utah in is true natural beauty.
