CRUISE SHIPS SUPPLY:

Another nice idea for deliveries, is the ships supply in the terminal. Here is a video of this kind of transport:

Alright, I've decided to list some companies in Greece that ship products to Europe, I've personally loaded cargo at some of these companies, and some of them are from colleagues who gave me the info, and from a spreadsheet my company gave the drivers, complete with companies in Greece and their coordinates (GPS doesnt always know the address in Greece). I'll try to provide any info I know, but in some cases I'll just provide the company location. These companies are GUARANTEED to ship transport internationally.
Obviously SCS will have to create mockup names for these companies for copyright reasons etc, so I'll include some names I can come up with.

ΑΓΝΟ, dairy factory.
This factory could be in Thessaloniki ingame, under the mockup name of
Cargo in: packaging, bottles, raw milk. Cargo out: Dairy products (Feta cheese could be made as cargo for Greece)
https://www.google.hu/maps/@40.7324456, ... 6656?hl=en

AGROVIM, Olive oil bottling factory
This factory could be in Kalamata ingame, under the mockup name of ΕΛΑΙΟΒΙΜ
outgoing cargo: olive oil, also olives may be added since Kalamata olives are world famous.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/AGROVI ... 6261?hl=en

Κ.Ε. ΚΑΛΑΜΑΡΑΚΗΣ Α.Β.Ε.Ε. - ΚΑΛΑΣ Α.Ε, Sea salt production factory
This factory could be in Patras ingame, under the mockup name of Saltco S.A.
Note that the "Hellenic Saltworks S.A. is also nearby, which might also be a good alternative for addition, It has some iconic salt pilled up in hills and stuff.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.3977166, ... 6656?hl=en
Cargo out: sea salt.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Κ.Ε.+Κ ... 5727?hl=en

Chion S.A
Another sea salt factory, within the city of Patras (not as impressive, but maybe more convenient to make)
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.2106819, ... 6656?hl=en

Bikos, water bottling factory.
This factory could be in the city of Ioannina, under the mockup name of
cargo in: packaging, cargo out: bottled water.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@39.8583018, ... 6656?hl=en

Colgate Palmolive Hellas, toothpaste and beauty products factory
This factory could be in Athens ingame, near the port of Pireus.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@37.9508489, ... 6656?hl=en

Delatolas Express, logistics company.
This company could be inthe city of Athens. There is a highway service station nearby.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/DELATO ... 3552?hl=en

Evrofarma S.A., Dairy factory
This factory could be in the city of Alexandroupoli ingame (its about 100 kms from the city but the village its in is not worth including)
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Evrofa ... 6117?hl=en

Famar S.A., Pharmaceutical company.
This company could be in the city of Athens ingame.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Famar+ ... 7551?hl=en

Goldair Handling, Airport, air cargo logicstics center.
This company could be in the "Makedonia Airport" in Thessaloniki ingame.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/40°31' ... 8372?hl=en

Grecia Fruit, Obviously a company dealing with fruits.
This company could be near Patras ingame. The area is famous for producing oranges, and watermelons.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.0189095, ... 6656?hl=en

Kronos S.A., Canned fruits factory
This company could be near Thessaloniki ingame, its a bit further away from the city in reality.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Kronos ... 3737?hl=en

Labridis bros S.A., Frozen fruits
This company could be near Thessaloniki ingame, its near the one I mentioned above.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Labrid ... 8187?hl=en

Tyras S.A. and Little Acre Farm, Dairy factories, exporting large amounts of Feta cheese.
These companies are very close to each other, they could be in the city of Trikala ingame.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/TYRAS+ ... 0364?hl=en

So these are what I can do for now, I have a list with about 70 addresses, If someone wants to do some research I can email some pictures of the list. It also includes coordinates to services for refrigerated trailers, ports, container terminals etc.

Really excited to see plans to add Greece. I've just created an account just to answer here.

Lets start with :

1 The absolutely essential no-brainer routes
1.1) Feres - Peiraeus port
https://goo.gl/maps/6aag6xcddvD6PqG97
This route starts from the Turkey Borders and links Greece's 2 major cities, Athens and Thessaloniki
It also contains the 3 new Tempi Tunnels, T2 is the longest tunnel in Balkans (6km)
https://goo.gl/maps/CC2Xzqc6hPyUs1AR7

1.2) Thessaloniki - Igoumenitsa
https://goo.gl/maps/dBucAx3zvzg1Nxns6
This will link Thessaloniki with Igoumenitsa port, one of the major cargo links between Italy (Ancona or Bari) and Greece.
This is also a very scenic route with multiple tunnels and bridges and mountain roads

2. Other links to major cities and ports

2.1 Ioannina - Kalamata
https://goo.gl/maps/CTLLbLic1Uh86m997
This is one major cargo route, linking North and West Greece with Patras (another big Port) and Peloponese, and also includes the famous Rio-Antirion bridge:
https://goo.gl/maps/gKGAJ8mkuBdHJHC66
This route ends in Kalamata, one of the most beautiful Greek cities with a port, and exporter of word class olive oil, oranges, lemons etc

2.2 Peireas - Patra
Another major link between Athens and Patra
https://goo.gl/maps/kfHvQPJUdPzf7zq46
This route includes the famous Corinth canal : https://goo.gl/maps/R2vpnfP2ZtsPN4Wz5

2.3 Crete (Chania - Irakleio)
Crete is the largest island in Greece, and this route links it's biggest cities
https://goo.gl/maps/mGd3ZdCkoGN3ztay8

3. Scenic routes

3.1 Corfu
Everybody will expect a long windy road seaside route. Islands are great, but for most of them you'll find it hard to get street view maps, as Google cars never found their way there, for example this route is great but unfortunately no maps : https://goo.gl/maps/B57YNtSV51Q38Uty9. A good option instead is..Corfu. This island is very popular with tourists, and actually this is the best truck route I could find

3.2 Chalkidiki
Another seaside route
https://goo.gl/maps/6i6g7ApkADQ1ABM18

3.3 Larisa - Kozani
viewtopic.php?t=267677
Now, this is a route through valleys, mountain roads, quarries, and also includes Servia bridge.
https://goo.gl/maps/3m6oe2TQfWgUvtEa9

4) Detours
Bonus points if you add a detour through the older highway section in Tempi valley, one of the most scenic and also dangerous routes in Greece

Some screenshots to convince you :D

MINERAL PRODUCTION IN ISLANDS, GREECE: CEMENT INDUSTRY CONNECTION.

#98 Post by plinio.lisboa.br » 05 Dec 2020 18:04

MINERAL PRODUCTION IN ISLANDS, GREECE: CEMENT INDUSTRY CONNECTION.

Note: The research carried out was much larger than intended.
So I'm rephrasing, but the content is very interesting. We will carry out the methodology in a different way.
We will just put the summary, redirected to the topic of storage of detailed information.

In today's research:
Let's talk about a very great relationship that exists between the islands of Greece in mineral production, with the activities of the cement industry in mainland Greece and the country's archipelagos. Mining on the Greek islands in the Greek Aegean is also important for the cement industry elsewhere in the world. And we discovered a company that does this in Greece, and belongs to the "Lafargue" group.
We also added a little curiosity about the Other possible applications of these minerals.

1. Gyalis Island - pumice stone mine. Municipality: Nysiros (t is also an island).

KTEO inspection on a truck in the port of Patras.

Vehicle inspection in port in Greece.

In the video it is possible to see a unit that allows verification tests on trucks and vehicles. The unit appears to be transportable. (So; this type of inspection is probably surprising and random - it's just an opinion).

Re: Greece pre-research tips

#100 Post by dahaka » 09 Dec 2020 20:08

Today I'm posting about the road network and things alongside it which are memorable / recognizable in Greece. I have created a concept map, based on my real life experiences of trucking in Greece, and my knowledge about my country.

On the map pictured bellow, I have marked the roads I consider necessary to be included to have an authentic, realistic, and immersive representation of Greece ingame, WITH RED.
The roads that would be nice to have but their absence will not be detrimental are marked WITH PURPLE.

[ external image ]

Cities That should definitely be included:
Athens (Αθήνα) - The capital of Greece
Thessaloniki (Θεσσαλονίκη) - The second largest city of Greece, referred to by the Greeks as "the co capital"
Patra (Πάτρα) - One of the largest cities, and an important ferry port, linking Greece with the Italian ports of Brindisi, Bari, Ancona and Venice.
Igoumenitsa (Ηγουμενίτσα) - A small village at the end of Highway 2/E90 which houses the second port linking Greece with the Italian ports of Brindisi, Bari, Ancona and Venice.
Kavala (Καβάλα) - A small scenic town built on a mountainside, large marble producer, with the mountains in the north of it being full of large quarries.
Alexandoupoli (Αλεξανδρούπολη) - A small town with a small commercial port.
Larissa (Λάρισα) One of the bigger cities in Greece, it houses a sugar factory, and other industries.
Trikala (Τρίκαλα) A small city surrounded by mountains, it houses two large feta cheese factories that ship many tons of feta cheese to Europe daily.
Ioannina (Ιωάννινα) A city in the mountain range of Pindos, there are two slaughterhouses in the area, and sheep and goat farms are present around the mountains.
Volos (Βόλος) A large seaside city with an important port, ferries depart from here to multiple small Greek islands.
Kalamata (Καλαμάτα) A small city, home of the world famous Kalamata olives, and the last large city in the mainland south worth including in the game.

Recognizable, memorable and scenic places along the roads and around the cities I have proposed.

On the map pictured bellow, I have marked with red and blue, numbered, stars the locations where things worth including are located. Bellow the picture I will list the numbers of the spots and provide a description of them, as well as google maps coordinates, and google pictures for you to easily find the things I'm talking about.

[ external image ]

1)The port of Alexandroupoli. This is the entrance to the port, with the famous landmark of the city, the lighthouse being visible in the distance.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@40.8442777, ... 2?hl=en-GB

2) Pirgon quarry. This enormous, impressive quarry located in mountains in the north of Kavala, has a unique look with large marble cubes carved out of the mountainside that easily dwarf nearby trucks and excavators.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylbeRr8rJ94
https://www.google.hu/maps/@41.2530933, ... !1e3?hl=en
[ external image ]

3) Κατάρα mountain pass. An infamous road nicknamed the "curse", is the fastest route from the south-eastern parts of Greece towards the port of Igoumenitsa. As such, many trucks travel it daily, and is a road that is both really beautiful and scenic, but also dangerous, with constant twists and turns and deep ravines next to the road in multiple places. Something similar to the "million dollar highway" in Colorado US. DO NOT MISS the chance to include this road when the time comes. It really is a very important and very scenic road without which, Greece will feel incomplete.

4) Highway E90 final descent to the port of Igoumenitsa. (slightly misplaced star) The highway descends through the mountains, with the driver being surrounded on both sides with beautiful green mountains, and having a great view in the front, where the sea, and the port of igoumenitsa, as well as the village can be seen. Particularly beautiful to drive late in the summer evening, as the sun is setting between the mountains straight ahead, being reflected by the sea bellow it far at the end of the road beyond the port.

https://www.google.hu/maps/@39.4787672, ... 226,15.38z

5)Meteora and village of Kalampaka. The world famous rock formations of Meteora are well visible from the road, which also passes through the little village of Kalampaka.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@39.7105879, ... 384!8i8192
One of the monasteries on top of the mountains is visible on this picture:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@39.703744,2 ... 384!8i8192

6) Κλεισούρα. This section of the road leads through a narrow path through large rock formations, the cliffs and the vegetation surrounding this section of the road is truly beautiful.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.5137577, ... 2?hl=en-GB
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.5102351, ... z?hl=en-GB

7) Rion - Antirion bridge. A beautiful large suspension bridge, visible from pretty far away.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Rion-A ... 21.7737007
During the night, the bridge is illuminated by colorful lights:
[ external image ]

8) A8B coastal highway. The highway that connects Patra with Athens, this road has a great view of the Corinthian gulf, during most of the drive. Cruise ships and yachts can be seen frequently sailing around in the gulf.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.3240668, ... 384!8i8192

9) Aluminium of Greece, A large factory producing aluminum. (the star is slightly misplaced on my map edit)
[ external image ]
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Alumin ... 22.6915902

10) Bauxite strip mine near Itea. Greece is the second largest producer of Bauxite in Europe, the material is used in the creation of aluminum. The road leading to and from them is also very scenic, having a view to the gulf of Corinth during a lot of the way.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.448475,2 ... a=!3m1!1e3
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.4456887, ... 384!8i8192
The mine even has it's own dock for ships!
https://www.google.gr/maps/@38.4415461, ... 384!8i8192

11) Delphi. While the site of the historical Delphi oracle is not well visible from the road, the museum associated with it is, and the view of the mountains from the narrow road is quite astonishing.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.481372,2 ... 384!8i8192
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Delphi ... 22.5009871

12)The Corinth Canal. A long canal carved in the rocky terrain, ships, including cruise ships frequently pass through it. The highway is running above the canal, on a bridge.
[ external image ]
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Corint ... 23.0090055

13)Hellenic Petroleum Industrial Site of Elefsina. This is a large refinery, clearly visible from the highway.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.0391124, ... 384!8i8192
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Hellen ... 23.5032105
Next to it, there are some shipyards, and a ship building company.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.0303304, ... 384!8i8192

14) Dionyssos-Pentelicon quarry. A marble quarry with impressive large holes cut in the marble cliffs.
https://www.google.hu/maps/place/Dionys ... 23.9039371
[ external image ]

15)National road 30. I could post pictures for days, this road is full of beautiful little villages, and lots and lots of challenging to drive hairpin turns. Sure worth your time to check it out extensively on google street view.

16) A section of the E90/2 highway that is full of tunnels, some of which have a pretty significant length.

17) Beautiful road section with Oleander bushes. "Nerium oleander" is a bush sized plant that grows in many places in Greece, it has beautiful pink or white flowers all year around, but blooming peaks during the summer. This highway section is filled on the left and the right with oleander bushes, making for a really beautiful drive.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@39.1612768, ... 2?hl=en-GB
There are other sections of the Greek highways that have oleander bushes planted on the left, the right, or even in the median between the two parts of the highway, like this area near Kavala:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@40.9303897, ... 2?hl=en-GB

It is important to create an accurate representation of the Greek vegetation, as it is a big part of the scenery.

Very commonly seen plants in Greece, and some spots to serve as examples:

Olive trees: they are everywhere in Greece, left and right and plantations of them can be often seen even on mountainsides:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.9894587, ... 2?hl=en-GB
Cypress trees: they can be seen sprouting out in a lot of places, they have a characteristic dark green color, and are also green all year around:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.1603401, ... 2?hl=en-GB
Oleanders: Bushes with beautiful pink flowers, that often grow on the roadsides:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.1603095, ... 2?hl=en-GB
Palm trees: Not really the ones you see in tropical islands, but I have no idea how these are called in English. They usually grow in parks, where they are planted, and near seashores:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@40.0755847, ... 6?hl=en-GB
Common Reed: The common reed can be spotted a lot of times on the roadside in Greece, especially in areas where there is a water source, river, creek, drainage ditch etc.
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.1727539, ... 2?hl=en-GB
Common reed can actually grow higher than even trucks:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.1675446, ... 2?hl=en-GB
Orange trees: Plantations of orange trees can be found mostly in the south. (the ones pictured might be mandarin oranges) There are both mandarin orange and normal orange plantations in the south of Greece:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.4114588, ... 6?hl=en-GB
https://www.google.hu/maps/@37.7220471, ... 6?hl=en-GB
Pine trees: Pine trees are very common in Greece, they can be found everywhere, and there are entire forests out of them. Often seen growing on the side of the roads:
https://www.google.hu/maps/@38.3180736, ... 2?hl=en-GB

I hope these help you create a more immersive Greece in the game. Took me like half a day to get all this :D
