[ATS] Time scale issues still present in 1.35

#1 Post by syscrh » 08 Jun 2019 20:25

Hi everyone!

Just like with my last bug reports for 1.32, I've found lots of places again in 1.35, where time moves at 1:19 scale, even though it should (in my opinion) move slower (e. g. 1:3 scale or whatever is typically used in cities).
This is the first batch of spots, that need adjustment in my opinion. I would expand this bug report, whenever I visit more places like this, if this is okay ...

Btw.: I've already seen the first places with the same issue in Washington (e. g. the weigh station on the way from Astoria to Aberdeen) by taking a peek at one of the Washington DLC preview videos ... I really hope that these issues will be fixed before Washington release ...

No map mods are in use! Locations were collected from the first experimental beta of ATS 1.35 until the current release (see game.log.txt for information about my hardware/software).

I have to bump this topic, as @ syscrh mentioned, there are a good amount of time scale bugs present in Washington. I have only looked for the truck stops. Simple gas stations (small ones), rest stops (with no gas station inside) and weight stations I will probably do in the future. I can attach screenshots of the locations, but I guess coordinates of bug report are just enough to find them.

First of all, gamelog. No map mods, only mods activated are top virtual mirrors and reworked route advisor. Anything else. ---> https://pastebin.com/MpK3LA01

Hello both,

Both of your profiles have mods included. Therefore, we cannot help you regarding your reports.

You must use a clean profile and follow the bug reporting process.

Sidenote to @LAFAYET47 - I noticed that you then made the reports one by one, but also using mods.

Hello @TruckerDog,

As I mentioned, the only activated mods I have in this profile are SISL's flat UI, top corner virtual mirrors and Hemil's reworked route advisor. How these mods can clash with time scale bugs such as the reported ones?

In any case, I made sure to run the game without any mod at all and the bugs are still there...time not running like it should: https://pastebin.com/kA3SP5gB

another gamelog, this time with NO mods at all in mod folder (empty) and steamworkshop ones disconnected. Bug with timescale in truck stops still present: https://pastebin.com/uxvvtFsB

finally, brand new profile without any mod. Timescale bug does not dissappear: https://pastebin.com/SDZccbCP

I'm fine with that. I understand, that it might be more work for you, if you can't be certain that the map/game isn't modified and it is your decision to do the extra check (if this issue exists at your end) before/after creating the ticket or not.

But: I can definitely not visit every place I found (while driving with the truck of my choice) a second time in a vanilla profile, just to report these annoying time scale bugs, which I discovered by accident.

You can either use my bug reports with mods and fix the bugs with them or discard them and leave the bugs in place. I definitely can't double the amount of time I spend with this software just to verify every single map-related bug on a clean profile (I mostly check some random samples), and I will also not drive with modern (which I am not interested in), vanilla trucks just because I might encounter another map bug in a stable release on the next intersection/rest stop.
You must use a clean profile and follow the bug reporting process.
Feel free to do whatever you want with the reports. Last time with 1.32 it wasn't an issue, that I was using a modded truck, and a couple of my reported time-related bugs were seemingly fixed, which is great and thanks for that! But if it is unacceptable now, that there's a truck mod active, I unfortunately can't help you with improving the map.

Btw.: I am always doing the extra amount of work (testing and reporting it with a vanilla profile + empty ATS folder) before reporting a bug, if it is a single issue of one kind. I just can't do the same amount of extra checks for you with reoccuring map issues, since I would always have to move my ATS folder, teleport to the same location in a vanilla profile, do the bug report and then revert it all back to continue playing. I develop software myself and I know how frustrating user-reported bugs can be, but you also have to understand, that I can't afford to spend a huge amount of time as a volunteer to double-check everything before reporting a bug.

Thanks.

EDIT: Improved the wording.

to be short, what really matters afterall is that this bug IS present with brand new profiles with ZERO mods activated. I tested this afternoon and the mods are not the problem. All my bug reports were wrongly labelled as mod issue. I beg you to reconsider that action. Thanks.

I can confirm that I have experienced this issue at several of these locations on a clean vanilla profile.

it's not that it's too much work for us to fix anything.

main issue is that we do not have time for debugging broken mods. we lost many man-years of time already to figure out that someone has something due broken mod.
argument that you have just some kind of mods is invalid because lot of mods change more things than mentioned in their description or that you might think just from mods purpose.
similarly, clean run itself is not ensuring that everything should be OK if your profile met broken mod before - some info is stored in save and when that inconsistent or broken info is used by game it migth cause issues, of course.

thus our request for unmodded profile has the purpose. it should save our time for more cool features in game instead of wasting it on eventual non-issues.
there are thousands of testing/reporting players but only handful of us. together, you - players - have much more time to polish the reports than we have. this is the way you can help us most.
just that.

regarding the time issue, i will check that personally and will try to come with some tool or anything that would help us find some cases in future.
thanks.
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

Your truck dashboard don't belong to any SCS truck ;)

I know, that's why I always move my whole ATS folder (the folder that's containing config.cfg, mod/, profiles/, screenshots/, etc.) before reporting a single issue of one kind. ;)

I fully understand and support that. The thing is: It is no problem for me to report a single issue using a clean ATS folder and I always do that, because it is much less work for you. But it is simply too much work for me to verify every single map-related bug on a clean profile. (I am already struggling to keep up with your map releases, because I unfortunately don't have lots of time to play your games anymore; e. g. I haven't even been able to drive up to Washington yet, even though I purchased it on release day ...)
The only thing I mostly do is to choose some random samples of these bugs, check them on a clean profile and if they occur there, too, I report all issues of this kind.

I am sorry if this sounds rude/unrespectful or something like that to you, it wasn't supposed to sound like that. ;)
regarding the time issue, i will check that personally and will try to come with some tool or anything that would help us find some cases in future.
thanks.
That sounds great! Thank you very much for that! :)

tl;dr: I try to do my best to help you improve your map, but if that isn't enough, I can't afford to do it any better, I am sorry.
