I took a closer look today at the photos in the Ukiah blog. Based on the power lines and exit configurations, it looks like they're now using the Gobbi Street exit (# 548B). If they keep the current road layout, this will magically become Perkins Street east of US-101, and Talmage Road west of US-101 - in real life those would be the exits north and south of this interchange.

Still curious about how a hidden road in Hopland turns into a shortcut.

I personally think shortcut is a bit misleading, as there really is no faster route between Ukiah and Hopland than US-101, but I will put my money on this hidden road being the Old River Road that runs parallel to US-101.

Sacramento is a must but I don't think SCS will get us a blog for each of those mentioned by time phase 2 releases. That's perhaps a Feb/March release if SCS is shooting for Spring. By the way the HoR blogs are popping out, 1.44 for Spring is highly probable. Redding might also get in that mix but the others may not make. I see Sacramento for sure though. Too much going on with it and it would be big hype to see it upgraded. I really want know if CA-99 gets to continue North of Sacramento. Looking at the current map, the junction off I-5 is too tight to add another junction. But if SCS completely rebuilds the I-5 @ I-80 junction and push I-5 North of that junction more North, we could be in business.

Now one thing I thought about to day as I was passing thru there on a delivery, is to not create the section of CA-99 connecting Yuba City to Sacramento. Instead, go ahead and make CA-20 East to West and CA-99 from Yuba City North to I-5. What does this do? Now SCS can use the space between Yuba City and Sacramento to make Yuba marked with industry for 5-8 depots and also mark Chico for 5-8 depots. Slide Yuba down a little more South and do a cut plane separating Yuba City from Sacramento. If CA-20 can connect US-101 and I-80, we can still get huge industry for CA-99 North of I-80. CA-99 can extend South of Yuba City with industry just as easily as it can extend North. Create 2-3 more farm companies and load up CA-99 with multiple farms along the same road. Now I doubt if Jakub and his team sees thing and considers it, but it sure would get some some density in California North of I-80. I'm not the only one hoping for CA-20, more CA-99, Chico and Yuba City. These adds just makes a more complete Northern California.

That's a good point about cut planes. Now they're into Texas they're bound to have to use cut planes in the denser areas. Why not use this technology in California? CA-20 & CA-99 are good places to start.

Chico is big enough and far enough away from other cities to warrant a place in ATS. Red Bluff would be a good scenic city, with maybe a depot tied to Redding. If CA-20 & CA-99 are added, Yuba City needs to be at least scenic, with maybe a depot tied to Sacramento.

If we get Chico, but no room for Red Bluff, maybe connect to I-5 with CA-32.

West of Yuba City on CA-20, they could add Sutter's Butte:

East of Yuba City, if there's no room to run CA-20 all the way to I-80, maybe connect with CA-65 or CA-174.

@axl135 I'd probably only like to see 1 or 2 of those, mainly just so there is a lot a get to experience first hand first, not "spoiled" via blog

  • San Raphael replacement
That, speculatively speaking, is highly unlikely. As hinted by even the blog itself, this replacement would be coming only in Phase 3, not this Phase 2, and it's very likely to be San Jose, we have discussed this before, and you seemed to miss out on that if you were to think that San Rafael's replacement is coming in Phase 2.

@TheAmir259 I remember SCS clearly mentioned San Raphael being jettisoned for something else, and because it was mentioned in the phase 2 blog post, I was left with impression it was going to happen with the next round of changes. So are you suggesting that San Raphael will still be around for a while longer? Or will they go ahead and remove SR as a marked location, and what ever takes its place will come later?

Yeah they said it in this blog: https://blog.scssoft.com/2021/12/califo ... t.html?m=1

“ Another major change that will come with Phase 2 of this project is that we will be saying goodbye to the city of San Rafael.”

And

“ To make up for this, we will be introducing a brand new city, which will be larger and of much greater importance in California's road network in Phase 3 of our ongoing project! ”

So phase 2 - San Rafael is gone
Phase 3 - new city appears (probably San Jose)

@Tristam-94 Thanks, I missed that part.

Okay, so it is likely one less city for phase 2 then.

From that, i understand that the San Rafael replacement will also come in the Phase 2 but will play a more major role in the road network of Phase 3.
We will see then.
