Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I agree, it’s fine to have I-5 over that stretch being empty and just having scenic towns and views here and there. CA-99 could do with being a lot more interesting, and having plenty of towns along it would be a good idea.

You'll get more places with same names as the maps advance west.
So due to naming, no ditching.
If for scenery, then maybe
San Bernardino and Carlsbad, I see no reason why one would exclude the other.

SCS should recreate the coastline (grey border lines on the world map) around Los Angeles: if Carlsbad is ditched then you have quite some room for the Port of Los Angeles.

An idea I had is to make the map a bit bigger north-south than it is west-to-east, say, 1:15 longitude but 1:20 latitude. Can squeeze in more of CA that way, since it is taller than it is wider.

thats not how it works, for time consistencies it has to be an uniform scale overall, you cant just change the scale north-south to something different from west to east

To be fair I can't wait to do Portland OR to Portland ME, I didn't mean to be against same named cities, just that in that case, it would turn out fine in my opinion
Stick to the route. Stop for nothing. Make the drop.
Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I feel like the entire CA-99 corridor could be made as a Phase 3 before the Bay Area. I'm talking about Visalia, Modesto, Stockton, Fresno and Bakersfield. So many economic opportunities in the area can be better represented than they are right now in the game and they're not precisely enormous population centers like the Bay Area and LA-San Diego-San Bernardino. Also, a lot of the transversal east-west roads that connect I-5, US-101 and CA-99 are not even marked as such and we could use some scenic towns in that area too.

Ditch Huron and replace Oakdale with Modesto
Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
Visalia would be a great add over Huron. CA-99 pushed East and CA-198 stretched over can provide a ton a space for Visalia. Its East and West and since its off CA-99, its loaded with agriculture. So in order to not get burned out on CA-99 with agriculture, it would realllllly help adding at least 2-3 new farming companies to the Western Region. We only have 1 farm for crops and 1 farm for livestock. That's not good. A solid 5-6 spread out thru 11 states works well. That is almost 2 per state. But if we can get 5-6, we can get a lot of variety where farming counts the most. Some of the paid dlc's in the West can even get swapped out.
I agree that the 230 miles.............its cool. That add some of that Montana/Texas feel for wide open nothing. As long as we got scenic towns, trucks stops...we good.

There's nothing wrong with cities having overlapping names. Portland is an obvious one, but even in the immediate future we could easily end up getting extras of Longview, Salina, or Aberdeen. Hell, I got more confused by Holbrook/Hornbrook than I would with any of those.
That having been said, is it worth it? Unlike a lot of the questionable CA choices, Carlsbad isn't a horrible pick. Unnecessary, sure, but not horrible. That said, LA and San Diego should come first; whether or not it's worth salvaging Carlsbad is secondary to making those two look and feel right.
And yeah, Huron and Oakdale should probably be replaced. Hilt should probably have been, too, but oh well
Thankfully this particular issue (of awkward city choices) is mostly specific to California and Arizona (where Blythe or Quartzsite should replace Ehrenberg, and Prescott should have been added in place of or in addition to Camp Verde). Nevada barely even has enough cities FOR wrong choices, and New Mexico onwards mostly did fine.
