If people don't go back to the rebuild team, there are only 3 people total working the base map and rebuilding the base map would take 3-4 times longer with just 3 people. With 4 map leads, we can basically have 4 map teams once Montana and Texas are released. The maps get smaller and so the teams can get smaller. 3 maps would be sufficient moving East until the base map and older content is refreshed. But all 4 teams moving East hurts future sales. Like Jakub said on the stream, the rebuild is for the future in that it can attract new players. In order for them to buy map dlc's and keep supporting the game, the base map has to look like current map dlc quality wise.

at one point they have to bundle stats, it doesnt make sense to release 48 DLCs for ever state, the west might be OK because of size, but the east has no many small states

Redding? it was always quite big. Even before 1.44.
North on I-5, that got a bit shorter in 1.44, while southbound it got bigger.

4 map teams? 1 would surely, for a while, be a rebuilding/refresh team.

Bundling? that will happen, question is when. Virginias, Maryland Delaware at the latest.
But could be as early as Louisiana.

if it is intended to work on bay area for phase 3, more mappers won't help as sectors for this area are limited. But more people could extend the phase 3 to other area like Stockton etc.

^Exactly. There could only be 3-4 sectors total so only 3-4 people can work it at a time. If San Francisco and Oakland is on the same sectors, that's a tough job. But hopefully San Jose, Stockton and Modesto are separate. Modesto isn't confirmed but I really hope it takes the place of Oakdale. Does Santa Cruz get X-ed out like San Rafael? To get a big San Jose, I'd be okay with that. Worse case, Santa Cruz goes scenic with a remote depot.

I like keeping Santa Cruz as it's a legacy 18 WoS city, but I'd be ok with it being redesigned to hug the coast more to make room for a bigger San Jose. Maybe push it a bit farther south if necessary. Squeezing in Monterey and/or Watsonville would be a plus. Watsonville is a major agricultural center that should get some farms/orchards anyway - giving them Santa Cruz addresses as the nearest marked city would be fine with me.

Replacing Oakdale with Modesto makes more sense. If California was designed as a DLC today I think it would have been designed that way.

At the moment, SF, Oakland, Stockton, Oakdale, Santa Cruz. Are in 4 sectors.
Golden Gate and some scenery streets in a 5th sector.

Wouldn't it be better to have San Francisco and San Jose in the same phase? Because it's one big metropolitan area. This has consequences for the road network as it is all bonded tight together.

San Jose is believed to be the city that SCS removed San Rafael for. That pushes the Bay area a tad North is the guess to make room for San Jose. But the Bay Area (Phase 3) should definitely be San Fran, Oakland and San Jose. Stockton is the bonus.

@Shiva thanks for the info of being 4 sectors. That's at least 4 people. That leaves 8 people able to work elsewhere if the rebuild team went back to 12-13 people. How many sectors is East of Truckee. We have Reno all the way to Wells. How many sectors is that along I-80?
