Is PRT tied to R66? In what way? I mean, there are countless other roads in the ATS world. And although Nevada and Arizona are not reworked, and therefore not suitable for PRT, California is reworked and it is big enough to make use of PRT. R66 is not that needed for PRT.

It might have been the reason why the next map rework is route 66 rather than a specific state. But it's only speculation on the part of forum members.

The announcement blog called it Project Route 66, but since it showed that the reworked areas go beyond the highway, I think we can say that, for all intents and purposes, this is Arizona Phase I. New Mexico is part of this phase, but only I-40, per the blog, and we don't know the full extent of reworks there, since blog screenshots only showed minor changes to NM, like small landmarks. I don't see why the Arizona part of the project can't be discussed here, and the New Mexico part discussed in its own thread (either the New Mexico thread, or a new DLC state rework thread).

PRT is probably a reason for PR66, since the 66 is such a classic road trip route, but I think Illinois plays a larger role. The teaser post for Illinois was all about Route 66 reaching its end, and having a consistently high quality Route 66 between Chicago and LA would be a big selling point, since this is one of the better known classic American road trips, not just here, but everywhere. I'll bet that someone from outside the US (or even in the US) with a passing knowledge of American culture and geography, but still doesn't know much or anything about the country's road network, will be able to say something about Route 66, even if its just the fact that the highway exists. If PRT didn't exist, I think PR66 still would.

^And this was my entire point. Arizona talk fits here. NM doesn't.

If this is true and Route 66 Rework Project is in fact mainly Arizona Phase 1, then I expect the whole north part of Arizona to be included in this phase. Because, why focus on R66 (I-40) and immediate surroundings, and leave the north part (Grand Canyon for instance) untouched? It will cause an unnecessary quality gap between AZ and UT.

I don't think so. A reworked I-80 would have been a big selling point for Nebraska, Iowa AND Illinois, but there is still no clear sign of an upcoming rework of the I-80. Besides that, with or without R66, most, if not all of us, will buy the Illinois DLC anyway.

This might be true, but let's face it: when R66 has been reworked, you will drive R66 for a couple of times. But after that couple of times you will want to drive other roads again. Besides that, we already can drive some parts of R66. I think one of the main reason for the R66 Rework Project is to 'unlock' the reworked south part of California. It also might be some kind of selling point for the Louisiana DLC. But as the I-80 is clearly no selling point for Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois, I don't think R66 rework will be a selling point for Louisiana; a reworked I-10 would be a much better choice.

One look at the blog already tells you that Grand Canyon will be reworked.

That, and when I was talking about selling points, I meant ones that as many people as possible would get. Route 66 is much more famous than I-80, despite the 80 being more important today.

Why not add NM to thread title and end the battle?

Well, New Mexico isn't part of the base game's map – it's the first paid map DLC which has its own discussion thread.
