Maybe SCS want to do the rework projects as fast as possible, hence the hint for multiple parallel rework projects. When these rework projects are done, then the rework teams could be split into a Canada project team and a Mexico project team.

Well, this is not what I was looking forward the most, but any kind of rework is always welcomed. Maybe I'm just too accustomed to Going East's/UK's quality in ETS2, but I don't find Arizona or New Mexico that bad compared with Nevada. Like others, I'd have liked if I-80 had been prioritized, although that last mention about multiple teams gives me hope.

I'm also thinking the same way as Vinnie. We're probably going to get one of these rework projects for ATS this year, whether it's the recently announced Route 66 or the next unannounced project.

I'm happy with this approach as it applies to Arizona and New Mexico. Kind of feels like Route 66 is a marketing label and this is really more of a northern phase/southern phase approach, which I think is perfect as someone who avoids both states. Even if it is more limited and they don't touch the connections to Utah and Colorado this time around, prioritizing a corridor through both is a bigger step to improving gameplay overall for me than doing one state or the other first and leaving a hole in the map.

Yeah I am curious if this will end up being more like a Northern AZ + Northern NV rework vs just the I-40 corridor. Looks like Northern AZ is on the table, but not sure if Farmington/Raton will get reworked for NM too, or not. It would be really cool if they did because then that connects the Front Range corridor with I-40 and thus SoCal, in addition to just using I-15 and I-70 to connect them.

The blog says
That's why we've kicked off the Route 66 Rework Project, focusing on key segments in Northern Arizona and parts of New Mexico, especially along I-40.
which to me implies that Northern AZ will pretty much all get reworked, whereas with New Mexico it might just be the I-40 corridor.

Pictures fit that as well, at least for now. Only got photos in NM that we’ve found are in Gallup, ABQ, and Tucumcari. Hopefully a full refresh of NM will come eventually. If it’s getting touched up a little now I’d hope the whole thing will be brought to the same quality eventually.

Honestly, I’d be fine with that. Outside of Raton to Asante Fe on I-25, a lot of New Mexico north of I-40 still holds up well. The I-40 corridor needs most of the touching up in that area.

We’re looking at a world where Texas is the oldest stretch of I-40 between Los Angeles and Memphis. That’s a far cry from not being able to go west of Albuquerque because the quality was so low.

After reading his more and thinking about it I really do think they are doing more then we think. The 80 in Nevada is the biggest thing as far as last remaining old old map.

From a marketing standpoint I understand the 66 rework as it will help with being able to say you can drive the remaining historic portions. Being a big Road map person who has been reading them for decades i can say the 66 is a main route from a while back and while I do agree he 80 in Nevada needs to be redone, I don’t think it will be as exciting to new players. While I do think that the 66 will add excitement.

I will think in a positive way. Even though most of us would like Nevada to be the priority, but we are receiving already some fresh new areas of New Mexico, along with Arizona, its a win, we all believed that would only be a talked about after Nevada and Arizona.

And has mentioned before by SCS:

''While this phase focuses on areas tied to Route 66, our teams have multiple rework projects across the map up their sleeves. So don't worry, there's more on the horizon!''

Maybe in the near future, the so wished I-80 in Nevada will be also mentioned in a blog.

And Nevada has great landscapes, not only desert and drylands, look at this stretch, at NV-232, south of the city of Tobar at US-93, until Ely. Beautiful snow capped mountains, some farmlands, there is room for this when the rework starts, even with 1:20 scale.

This type of landscape we also need in Nevada, differents biomes, we know SCS sometimes read the blogs, we will provide whatever we can to help.

oldmanclippy wrote: 26 Jun 2025 14:36 IMO, this thread should be used for rework projects *which include the base map*. So if SCS announces a Oregon+Washington refresh project, that would go in a different thread, but if SCS announces an I-80 corridor rework project which includes parts of Utah, the discussion for Utah should be in this thread just like how the discussion for northern New Mexico belongs in this thread now.

That is to say, I think I-80 Utah discussion should probably go in this thread for the time being, but discussion about a full-blown Utah rework in 15 years should probably go in the original Utah thread.
Honestly, I feel like this thread should probably evolve into a general prospective rework thread, with known future reworks being split off from this one - e.g. a new thread specifically for the Route 66 rework.

I don't feel like it makes sense to resurrect a decade-old thread to discuss a rework (especially if it covers multiple non-base states), nor do I feel like dumping everything into one thread is really helping anyone keep information organized. At most, rework threads could link back to relevant state discussions + this one as reference material.

But this board has a really weird obsession with splitting threads that don't need to be split (like the truck brand topics) while combining threads that probably shouldn't be (like the Dakotas). I know better than to attempt to fight it.
