Totally agree with you here and that's saying for all the original models, they were good at the time and to me still hold up quite well. The only thing I would get them to touch up is adding a flat top sleeper for the W900L with a shorter wheelbase like 260inch or so.

Watch out! You might get a book on what's wrong with the 389 and why it doesn't "hold up"! 😂

Or maybe I should start reciting that book and they would start a chapter on 579, I guess that should just do the trick.

But both the ways is a win-win. Rebuild the old one so it can be used a base for the new one or just add the new one.

Found an interesting 2 week old quote from Rocky Mountain Peterbilt's on youtube.
January 1, 2024 will be two things. The new 589 and new emissions again.
The 389 will cease production as of 1-1-24. You are correct.
I have seen photos of it and it looks awesome! I think it looks 1000% better than the W990.
Anyone sourced any photos of it themselves?

I know of some folks who have seen the mockups, one of which is a former Peterbilt engineer. From what I've been told, the 589 will have the external air cleaners but won't have a split windshield and won't have piano hinge bulkhead style doors like the 389. I'm expecting something similar to a Freightliner Classic in terms of cab shape given the popularity of the Ultraloft sleepers since their introduction but it should still have the options for a normal roof cab with modular sleepers as the 2nd gen 579 still has them.

Hopefully it's a long hood. The W990 is a short hood set forward: looks like the W900 is the last long hood they will make.

Yeah, no. The hood length between the W900 and W990 is virtually identical.

I like the split windshield though.. I feel like a truck idling and vibrating and twisting and turning is easier on two separate pieces of glass than one massive glass trying to twist with each cab bounce.. But oh well I am upset to hear the 389 is being shelved.. I guess if it's similar to the 367 I'll be content enough.. somewhat.. I prefer a straight perfect square hood...maybe SCS will give the 389 a last bit of face lift love before it's technically gone or just be stuck forever with the same untouched model

there is no difference, the front window is part of the structural integrity for decades on vehicles already, they can withstand way more then a bit of torsional moment or vibrating

I dunno I just know from my experience the 387s at the company I worked at used to have nothing but windshield issues
