[Bug] [Steering] Keyboard lag of 500ms

#1 Post by MaestroGlanz » 31 Jul 2020 07:39

Background:
I played ETS2 after a long break of around 3 month. The last time I used the keyboard is definitely over a year ago. In between I used a Thrustmaster TX wheel.

Bug description:
Since the last update, 1.38 I have a lag of at least 300ms and up to 500ms (I'm not a high precision clock, so this is estimated). I push the arrow key, nothing happens, then after a pause of at least 300ms, the animated steering wheel moves and the truck responds.

What I tried:
Changing the sensitivity: No difference.
Close all other programs: No difference.
Check for missing memory pages: No faults.
Checked ATS: Same problem.

I think, the last version, where it worked, was 1.36, but since I had a long break in playing the game, I can't tell for sure.

The game is vanilla, only DLCs used, no mods.

My potato PC is
Intel I5-4300M @ 2,6GHz
4GB RAM
Win 7 SP1

Wouldn't it be easier with a mouse for steering?

@room217au No, because I need the mouse to look around. And I'm actually pretty good with keyboard steering.

You can assign a modifier key/mouse button that when you hold it down, the mouse becomes 'look around'. I've assigned the LMB to 'look ahead'. As fast as you can move the mouse, is as fast as you 'look around'.
RMB is engine brake toggle. Mouse wheel is cruise control inc/dec. Everything else is kb with my left hand. Been doing it this way since ETS2 in 2014.
It may not work for you, but I reckon it gives the best of both worlds.
