Oklahoma Discussion Thread

#1 Post by EthanE40 » 09 Oct 2020 04:10

UPDATE: OKLAHOMA ANNOUNCED

Since there's already a pre-research thread for Oklahoma, I imagine it's fitting it should get a discussion thread. Plus it seems to already be discussed quite a bit, more so then some others.

Oklahoma is very similar to Texas in terms of its geography and economics (especially with north and central Texas). This means lots of oil, agriculture, and natural gas. It's also home to I believe four native tribe nations, including the Choctaw, Cherokee, Muscogee, and Chickasaw. All of them comprise of the eastern and southeastern parts of the state, with the Chickasaw situated along I-35 south of OKC to the Texas state line. And speaking of OKC...

Cities

Here's the ones I without a doubt see coming (or at least 95% certain):
Oklahoma City
Tulsa
Lawton
Bartlesville
Ardmore
Enid
Woodward
Guymon (will probably be the only mapped city in the panhandle)
Ponca City
McAlester
Ada
Elk City or Weatherford (at least one of those will make it in to fill in the gap between OKC and Amarillo)

The ones that could make it but could be left out due to space or other reasons (some of these may end up being scenic):
Durant
Muskogee
Norman or Edmond (if they want a big OKC suburb to include)
Shawnee
Duncan (about 25 miles from Lawton but also has a major Halliburton manufacturing center that should without a doubt be included whether as part of Duncan or even Lawton)
Stillwater
Tahlequah
Altus
Poteau
Hugo
Idabel
Cushing (may end up being part of Stillwater if either are included, but there's a large field of oil storage tanks here; in fact, Cushing is known as the "Pipeline Crossroads of the World")
Broken Bow (or Idabel, but Broken Bow is probably more likely)

And some scenic towns I could see included:
Atoka
Eufaula
Boise City
Thackerville (only for the WinStar Casino where the exterior is like if all the Vegas hotels based on cities were mashed together https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7581036 ... 384!8i8192)
Chelsea
Pawhuska
Broken Arrow (solely for Blue Bell, which could end up being a remote depot for Tulsa)
Moore
Okmulgee
Tishomingo
Prague
Stroud
Owasso
Vinita (due to the famous McDonalds travel stop above I-44, but may end up not coming until the Missouri DLC)
If Durant isn't mapped, it should at least be scenic; they also have a big casino resort (the Choctaw Casino)
And if y'all got any other scenic town suggestions, feel free to reply.

Industries

I've already mentioned the obvious ones. Agriculture, oil, and natural gas are musts for the state, as well as energy and manufacturing.

I imagine there may be at least one airport featured in the game. There are two major(ish) airports in the state, respectively in the two major cities of Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Obviously the more likely airport to be featured is the Will Rogers World Airport (the main international airport for OKC).

In terms of oil, there is one major refinery that I found located off I-244 near downtown Tulsa. Unfortunately I'm not an Oklahoma native so I don't know as much about their industries as I do about my home state's (Texas). However, Tulsa is known as the Oil Capital of the World which is interesting.

Now agriculture is all over the state so I don't think I need that many specifics except for one. The Braums Family Farm in Tuttle, OK (about 20 miles southwest of OKC in the rural countryside) is the main processing plant/bakery for Braum's Ice Cream. This is a place that's kinda similar to Dairy Queen and Culvers in which their main selling point is their ice cream, but they also have some fast food options as well. All Braum's locations have to be within a specific distance from the Oklahoma farm, which is why they're not as widespread (basically just throughout Oklahoma with some scattered around in surrounding states, they're also prominent in DFW). However one interesting thing to note is that most (if not all) of their locations have a small grocery store inside that sell a lot of their products. This would definitely make a good delivery job for Oklahoma.

Like I said I'm not an Oklahoma native so that basically means I don't really have much else in terms of input, so I'll let you guys talk it out.

Boise City has to be included instead of Guymon it's the one city that connects between Texas state line and Colorado along with New Mexico also it has some awesome lil landmarks!

Such as the the life size long neck Dinosaur just outside of town and the accidental bombing of Boise City OK historical marker, with the little Bomb statue on the sidewalk where the roundabout is. it's one of those small towns that should be apart of the bigger picture imo. It Also has a Loves Truck Stop.. so it would be great to include a hearts there!

Historical Bomb location https://www.google.com/maps/@36.7298171 ... 328!8i1664 Very difficult to see I tried to center it best i could with this link

Dinosaur Location just at the edge of town headed to Colorado https://www.google.com/maps/@36.7412367 ... 328!8i1664

Anyways two great little landmarks!

I would like to see my home town, Chelsea, be at least represented as a scenic town. It’s home to the first Oil Well in OK and has one of the last surviving pedestrian underpasses on Route 66 (there’s even a mural in it). https://youtu.be/VOEXJkwl4lI

There are three other refineries: Ponca City which is bigger that the one in Tulsa, one in Ardmore and one in Wynnewood!

I think we'll see Boise City as scenic and it might even come with the Texas DLC to connect between CO and TX DLCs, while Guymon will be mapped and come with Oklahoma proper

Very likely option.

Thanks for letting me know! I imagine we should definitely see the Ponca City and Ardmore refineries.

Wynnewood I'm not sure about though.

Regarding Oil industries i do hope they bring new ones instead of re-using the old ones like Chemso and Gallon Oil

I think Texas seems more likely to include new ones in my opinion.

Well I've tried to make my case for why Boise City should be the panhandle city instead of Guymon in the research thread hopefully they see it! But I guess oh well if no luck in my effort..!

I really don't see Boise City getting in as a mapped city. Scenic most likely, but not mapped.

Guymon is the largest city in the Oklahoma panhandle, and has a lot more industries than Boise City. Perhaps the biggest example is the Seaboard Foods processing plant located on the northeast side off of US 64/54. https://www.google.com/maps/@36.70855,- ... a=!3m1!1e3

And if you noticed from the map, just next to that is a bioenergy plant.

Right here seems to be some sort of silo, which goes to show how agriculture is a major part of the economy in not only Guymon, but the whole panhandle. https://www.google.com/maps/@36.686719, ... 312!8i6656

There's also a Walmart and Tractor Supply Co right across from each other. https://www.google.com/maps/@36.704725, ... 328!8i1664

As for Boise City, I didn't find much major industry outside of a silo near a train track.

Not to say Boise City should not get in, because I do think it should be a scenic city. They got the dinosaur monument, the Love's, and a weigh station, among maybe some other landmarks. I just don't think there's enough there to make it mapped.
