SCS General Discussion Thread
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
I could understand that part though. Thanks to my small screen, my fov value came out to be too low. So simply doubled the value I got, (still smaller than the default ~70 deg) and now it looks okayish and not too wide

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
i have ~58, my screen is a 21:9 29" display and sitting distance is ~60cm (wich is never constant, i move a lot while playing )
ETS and ATS are the only game where i made this, in Project CARS2 i dont need it because i use it with a VR headset, and the experience of driving is 1000X better and more natural even with the narrower FoV because of the HMD (120° i think on the Index)

The cardboard comparison is correct, but that's my point: you wouldn't sit in an actual truck with your view limited by a big cardboard
Therefore, I prefer a FOV much bigger than what these calculations suggest. One way or the other, it is not realistic anyway.

vanilla player, loving ETS2, loving ATS even more! |

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
but that is what you see if you look thriough the monitor, and this is what the FoV settings are for, you are not supposed to see the whole interior because it falsifies the whole feel for speed, in ETS and ATS it might not be relevant much but in racing games you would never set your FoV in a way that you see everything, because it will cause you to drive much, much worse, you wont be able to correctly estimate curves (much worse then already with a flat screen) the speed you "see/feel" doesnt match your actual speed, this is why you set it as low so it matches the example i gave, iRacing even has this calculator build in, if you have a curved wide screen monitor you can set a different FoV because you see more, this is why my FoV is "bigger" because i have a 21:9
this is one reason why, in my opinion, every racing game should support VR, for me it already would be a reason not to buy it, F1 2021 for example, Dirst Rally 2 supports it but not F1, reason enough for me to not bother with the game, hope 2022 will finally do it

Sitting in a real N. American truck, looking straight ahead through the windshield, you would see about 3/4 of the dash to your right and about half the steering wheel. Everyone's FOV is different. I once applied for a job with Shell Oil to haul fuel tankers, the personnel manager commented on my eye test and said I had an excellent FOV compared to others. We're all different.

I end up in the same place. My default is 65 degrees with seat pushed back to the max on a 27” monitor placed at roughly 70 cm away from the eyes. It’s my sweet spot, I can see a slice of the left mirror (in ETS2, in ATS no chance on Anthem, lol) while the distorsion of a high FOV is acceptable.
I have approximate knowledge of many things
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
I have 24" monitor, and sit around 60-70cm away. I have also trackir. I use fov of 60 by default. It gives me clear view of dash and road. As I can move head freely, i don't mind bit seeing mirrors by default.

Makes me wonder if we will get a post about HoR this week. HoR has had a weekly posting schedule for a while now, but blogs on weekends rarely appear.
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
You guys who are talking about the FOV there, could you take a print to show me here?
I use a TV 43' in 3840x2160 resolution, I stay at a distance from the TV of 120cm/130cm and use the FOV in 80º. Just like that: https://imgur.com/a/tN1r55C

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
~42 if i use 125cm distance as an intermediate
https://andyf.me/fovcalc.html
but for a TV i dont know if it will work on this distance, personally i would never be able to drive regardless wich FoV i set, this is why my "racing setup" was seldom used because the distance to the TV was to much for me to comfortably drive
