I don't think it should be like exact drawing.. I imagine something like a generic icon/drawing that represents a lake or a mountain with a name on it..

Maybe it would be a bit more complicated for a river, make a better representation to resemble a bit what we see on the road, whether it's parallel or it's crossing our path.
Then maybe an area that is National Park like Yellowstone could have it's area drawn as well.

Not a bad idea at all. It encourages exploration. It does require someone to keep up with all of it but do it once and it's done forever unless the map gets reskinned.
My post are only thoughts and ideas. Don't assume it makes ATS.

The issue with that the map is not 1:1 of course but it could work if it was scaled down to fit in a specific resolution.

No de zeuz lol was not asking to add icons on the map knowing that in 1.47 SCS has reduced the number of icons supported, it has even caused a lot of trouble to some cards modded ....

The only difference is, it's not named on the map, you have to to gallery. But the landmarks are indeed marked. Not many of them, but it's a start.
Now the map background could use some work, because it's a low res picture that shows pixels when zoomed in, and doesn't work well with high res road network that often doesn't even fit with the border lines. We can definitely do better, c'mon UI devs.

It's different. Same purpose but we don't have to overcomplicate stuff. Just a few names of natural formations which we come across while driving.
SCS does a lot of effort bringing them in the game but if you don't know what it is outside of the game, there is no easy way to find out.
Either have to search through blogposts or go on googlemaps and start comparing etc. I think the game does have an educatory purpose in it.

They said they considered the possibility to include explanations of what's seen on cut scenes when they introduce them but so far they had not done that change. It's a possibility that I will like to expand to city introduction cut scenes (and made them available always, not only on starting a career, as lots of people requested).
They also included detailed localizations on the loading screenshots; something that was very welcome.
They could also add info related to those trophy screenshots we find. All of this could be included in the trophy section of the recently expanded GUI. With time and further addition of cut scenes and trophy screenshots all through the map, a lot of that info could be generated for those who care about it.

In earlier versions of Euro Truck Simulator 2, traffic flow would be honking and flashing headlights to signal us to go first
Hopefully in the future America Truck Simulator will add these trucks: Freightliner 122SD/Century/Columbia/FLD/Cascadia/Coronado, Kenworth T800/T880/W990,Volvo VNX740, International HX520/ ProStar, and MACK Pinnacle, MACK Titan.
