I'll discuss it again with RJL. Perhaps simply moving the 5th wheel to a more realistic position would make the chassis work better.
I did some quick testing, since I not only use the RJL 10x4, but also a Scania NG 10x4/6 that I cobbled together out of an old, old 10x4*6 mod for 1.32 and am still considering whether it's ready to release...
With the ownable SCS low loader, there's enough clearance and then some between the gooseneck and the rear bumper of the 10xX chassis with the fifth wheel in its current position:

For this application, the location of the fifth wheel is basically perfect the way it is, and since it's essentially the same mesh with different extra bits, it also applies to the special transport low loaders.
The ownable low *bed* trailer on the other hand has much less space aft of the kingpin, and as such the taillights will clip the landing legs of the trailer. Which is unfortunate, but then again I can't find much evidence of anyone using 10x4s to haul low bed trailers, it's all low loaders in the pictures i can see. Or possibly ballast trailers, which are flat bed trailers with multiple axles and steering on a bunch of them. (These were AFAIK developed for hauling crane ballast blocks, hence the name.)
Also, the 4-axle low loader in particular is pretty much perfect for the 10xX chassis due to following the rule of balance - four axles on the trailer to match the four axles under the front end of it. Most legit heavy haul combos appear to at least try to follow that, or they have more axles forward than aft.
Basically... the current chassis is fine the way it is, so long as you use it for its intended purpose, which is hauling low loaders. It hooks up nicely to the low loaders with advanced trailer coupling, it turns around corners without clipping, and I do believe it enhances maneuverability over a 4+1 and 8x4 combination, even in game, which would have the same allowed total weight. (I believe it also hooks up nicely to Jazzycat's stuff without clipping when you turn, but that, I haven't checked recently.)
