Billys road trips and Blender adventures in the US

#1 Post by Billy_Costigan » 18 Jun 2021 14:26

Hey there.

Since I don't want to spam my ETS Thread with ATS stuff I decided to make an own topic over here.
Short story about me: I'm playing and modding ETS and ATS for years now but mostly skins and texture editing since I had zero knowledge about Blender.
A few months ago I started to mess around with Blender. Mostly because of the lack of good mods for ATS or better said the selection of mods is just less in comparison to ETS.
I still consider myself as novice but at least I can implement most of my visions which I had for years without the dependency of other modders or their mods.

I want to share there some of my work and maybe learn something new from Blender experts in order to get better.

A little kind of "disclaimer": I have very little to no knowledge of proper 3d modeling. That's why I have to use given 3d models by SCS or even from other mods which are floating around the web or on my hard disk.
Because of this you will most likely see 3d assets from other modders or even by yourself if you are reading this.
But don't worry: my works will never be shared with the web. I'm modding mostly for my own enjoyment and to make my game better and more realistic.
That's one thing I wanted to clarify beforehand.
The 579 was the first truck I modded when I started to mess with blender something over a year. I got a little better at it and started to play around with modeling in Blender.
Still an absolute beginner but I'm having fun learning new things. Lately I was updating the 579 to 1.40 and reworking some stuff I smashed together bumblingly.
It's kind of an hate/love relationship with the 579 since I like the interior and exterior design very much but the quality of the truck is just horrible. Especially in the interior with all the normal maps instead of real meshes.

Reworked the interior as good as I could:

I started to mess around with some shops across the map. Available mods don't cover some of the oldest shops and I decided to rework them myself. Nothing special but imo still better than thos corny burger shops and yummy restaurants:

I actually thought you were an experienced modeler since you have so much custom doodads on your trucks.

Great pictures, by the way!

@Skoot thank you!
Well actually I started to mess around with modeling lately. But nothing complicated like rear bumpers, deckplates, center panels and simple stuff like that.
Most parts which you can see on my trucks are taken from other mods and adapted to fit more or less until I can build my own stuff from scratch.

Stumbled over a mod which adds a flattop cabin to the Cascadia. Long story short: ended up reworking almost the whole truck.

I guess it's not everone's cup of tea but I like the mix of "new school" and "old school" elements.
So here it is: a lowered Cascadia with stretched chassis and some additional accessoires.

Reworked the grill, bumper and headlights:

Added custom trailer cable connectors and modeled some basic parts like mudflap hanger, center panel and bumper plate:

Reworked the blurry decals:

Did a bit of work on the truck and trailer, especially in the interior:

Added a bit of realism and a personal touch to the dlc toys:
