Iowa Ideas/Tips/Suggestions

#1 Post by KeganMinecraft » 04 Oct 2021 12:49

After Kraake posted various threads for current planned future DLC research tips, I decided to make my own, but for a bit further off DLC I hope to one day see as none have been made in years: IOWA. I figured that at worst, this thread won't help SCS (due to lack of planning for this DLC, or maybe it never makes it out for some reason, etc), but at best, it can help their research efforts not only for this particular state, but also for other states (Iowa is similar in many ways to many other states).

I might as well copy over this list of other states which SCS has made research threads for:

| COLORADO | IDAHO | MONTANA | OKLAHOMA | UTAH | WASHINGTON | WYOMING |TEXAS |

Other Unofficial Research Threads
| ARKANSAS | IOWA | QUÉBEC | LOUISIANA | MICHIGAN | KANSAS |
BRITISH COLUIMBIA | MISSOURI |

Keep in mind this thread is not part of that list, nor is it part of their official research, just something I wanted to share due to my hopes of seeing this DLC eventually be made.

The state can be divided into seven main regions:
  • Des Moines Lobe
  • Loess Hills
  • Southern Iowa Drift Plain
  • Northwest Iowa Plains
  • Iowan Surface
  • Paleozoic Plateau
  • Alluvial Plains

  • Companies Based in Iowa
  • Hy-Vee (Grocery)
    • Casey’s General Stores (Gas/Convenience)
    • Vermeer Company (Industrial/Agricultural Equipment)
    • Rockwell Collins (Avionics/Information Technology Systems)
    • Von Maur (Department Store)[/b]
Overall Like what people think about Oklahoma or Wyoming Iowa is not all Plains and farmlands there are pretty parts of the state as well.

There is this town called Adair IA along I-80. It is home to a Popular Smiley Face Water Tower shown below :)

It is also home to the Jessie James historical site. Home of the first train robbery in the West US.

It might not be the best place to put on the map to travel through but it does deserve at least a rest stop and maybe a gas station

Iowa scenery items--The Western Skies Scenic Byways is state route IA-44 its very scenic route. It may not be necessary for trucking, but this scenic route that drive tourism to the area. The Western Skies Scenic Byway stretches 140-miles and spans the four counties of Guthrie, Audubon, Shelby, and Harrison. It's about 10 miles parallel of I-80 could be detour option as alternative route or secondary route if your sick of freeway driving.

Ridgetop View on Highway 44 between Hamlin & Kimballton. This stretch of road offers breathtaking views of the rolling countryside. Just go to street view you think these states are flat.

Danish Windmill in America. The mill, buillt in Denmark in 1848, was purchased by the community of Elk Horn in 1976. It was carefully deconstructed, shipped to America, and rebuilt here based on a 1/10 scale model made by the carpenter who dismantled it in Denmark. The Windmill has become one of the most popular and successful tourist attractions in Iowa.

This area could add new farm prefab and companies that are tied to ethanol or go feed pigs the corn. Think new farms prefabs along with new winery companies be and couple windfall prefabs delivery parts to.

Add gravel roads to these farms as well too create sandbox of farms and windmill plants.

There is also companies like John Deere that have facilities in Waterloo and Iowa City, Ottumwa, Davenport. In addition, pella windows plant which located Pella Iowa off state route IA-163 you take sand from Wyoming and Limestone from Missouri and Kansas make windows to use on residential or commercial housing.

There is bike trail on small segment from south I-80 to Audubon Iowa-there is also truckstop and small engine airport nearby.

Also, animal feed all over Iowa from soybeans to corn to turn into high quality feed for cows and pigs along with chickens, so you could add these all over the map. They are cooperative they are all over the midwest from Minnesota to Ohio. Soybean drop off point to turn into aminal feed research idea to look at. The facilities at times are smaller than typical delivery drop off point.

There some information at the USDA --https://www.usda.gov/topics/rural/co-op ... al-america if may not be trucker related, but it can help set up supply chains based on how cooperatives are setup.

These mines are common in the midwest-Calcite is the mineral component of limestone which is used primarily as construction aggregates, and in production of lime and cement. Limestone also is used in a variety of commercial applications including: road construction, riprap and jetty stone, filter stone, railroad ballast, poultry grit, mineral food, sugar processing, flux stone in steel production, glass manufacture, sulfur dioxide removal in power plants, coal mine dusting to prevent explosions, acid water treatment, asphalt fillers and refractory stone.
