Latest update - 1.43.2.27s - Now crashing ATS also force closes Steam (logs included) [NOT A BUG - STEAM ISSUE]

I am using the PS / 4 controller to play ETS2 and ATS.
After the game was updated, I start playing games, then the game crashed.
Even if I change the controller (PS / 4> Xbox One Controller),
When I don't use the controller, and I re-enter the game, ETS2 and ATS can play normally.
But after I use the controller again, the game crash will occur.

At present, I can enter the game normally in accordance with your suggestion.
It was a pity that the next layer setting that it can't provide at Steam Controller.

Looking forward to recovering with the original Steam Controller compatibility in the next version update.

My fix was specifically for the Steam controller because of how the Steam input system interacts with the game. If you are using a different type of controller (PSX/XBOX), my fix would not help. Other crashes are being caused by UI mods and file verification problems. If you have not yet done so, try:
1) Disable any UI mods you have installed (road advisor, anything that alters the game's visual interface)
2) Verify your game files (if playing through steam)

Many people's crashing games have been fixed by just verifying the files as the update corrupted a couple files.

I don't have a crash report as it won't create one with this crash.

The problem does seem to be with the steam controller but I cannot seem to resolve it. I tried a vanilla game and a modded game with the controller off and it worked fine, so its not any mod that I have installed. Either type of game with the controller active crashes out when I attempt to drive the truck. I tried disabling steam input in steam and setting up the controller through the in-game wizard, but that did not work. I also tried resetting the controller config for the game (setting it to gamepad) and it doesn't seem to stay reset and switches back to the ATS standard setup automatically. I also tried opening Big Picture and turning off the controller supports, again with no success.

Hm. Not sure, you might want to post a gamelog here for others to review. Otherwise, the only suggestion I'd have is to make certain that you have disabled the steam controller input in steam before launch. In big picture mode, go to the game and make sure that the controllers are forced off. Then in the standard steam menu for the game, check Properties > Controller Config and verify that the controller input is disabled.

Beyond that, no idea - you may need to submit a ticket to SCS to see if they can help.

As per previous posts we have no more advice unless you are willing to share a game log.

After a crash, post your game.log.txt to pastebin.com (no account needed) and then post the link here and we'll have a look for you.
The file can be found at "C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\American Truck Simulator" for a default install.

I have the same issue - ATS is not playable with a controller.

I'm using a PS4 controller and the only way I can get the game to launch to the driving screen is if I disable Steam Controller support, or the PS4 controller is not connected. However, when I set up a controller using the Input Wizard, well... the controller isn't recognized.

For the PS4 controller, I really don't want to go to the default controller mapping. I did the controller remapping dance but a few weeks ago and remapped the controller... twice... in a few days.

I've disabled the steam input in the game settings, but it always leaves the Steam controller enabled as it is "required", also forced off in Big Picture. I've tried disconnecting the steam controller and reconnecting at various points before and while in the game. On the attached attempt, I disconnected the controller, made sure the inputs were set to off. Loaded the game, connected the controller, went through the setup steps as per the post in this thread and like usual the game CTD upon hitting the drive button. Was there an update to the game between March 3 and March 4? I'll start a ticket with SCS I guess.

Just curious, but could you run the game and drive without the steam controller at all? I tried that myself when I was troubleshooting in order to narrow down the problem to the steam controller. If you are still unable to play without any controller, there may be a different problem. And yes, steam will always set the controller input to "required". It seems not to matter as long as the config is still set to disabled.

Not to confuse things further, but I did just run across a related solution in which someone performed all the steps in my earlier post, but additionally, set the controller config for the steam controller to a default gamepad before launching the game, then setting it back to the ATS standard within the game wizard settings. That might jar something loose for you too.

Yeah it's 100% the controller, and more specifically the ATS bindings somehow. If I disconnect the controller, I can drive with mouse and keyboard no problem. If i set it up as "keyboard WASD and mouse" or just a gamepad it will let me get to the point where I can drive with the keyboard again and even turn the wheel with the stick acting as WASD, but if I escape out and adjust the controller keybinds and return to game, none of the bindings work and as soon as I try to escape to a menu again it CTD.

Wish this had worked for me. It did not. Interesting find though: the Steam settings were set to Angry Karl, so cool there's an official ATS one.

Interestingly enough my Steam controller works fine with nearly any other game. Only ATS and ETS have this issue.

Luckily I figured out it was not the game, rather the Steam Controller integration. If I remove the controller, then I can still play. But will likely be taking a break until a fix is found because keyboard is just not the same experience.

For clarity, I am able to load the game, even load my profile, but when I click drive it goes to a black screen. When at this black screen, Steam crashes/closes, and for me to get out of the game I have to kill at task manager due to "not responding".

In tandem the cloud sync will say not synced, I click sync and it works.

Again, can now play the game just fine as long as I don't have my Steam controller plugged in. My Logitech Controller works fine, but it's limited to just the two axis and I like using the triggers for brake/acceleration. Seems like when I go to adjust those settings, I can't.

I've attached these logs but possibly not helpful because the game didn't crash and I've since been using my keyboard?
