I wish this mod evolved one day to have the small window/flat dash cab option. Really love those first generation 289/359s but for some reasons they are not particularly popular with modders.

Working on a Doonan sleeper. Hasn't been easy to find good reference photos. Every one of these were likely made to order custom jobs but if anyone knows what one of these things look like on the inside I'd love to see it. :D

It's not an "Aerodyne" but it's obviously styled much like one. Those Doonan sleeper caps are just replacing the stock cap on the factory flat top sleeper. I live near a Doonan dealership and they (or more likely the bigger dealer in Wichita) made these, or had them made.

Thay said, I've seen a good few pics of, as well as passing on the road, Petes with actual Kenworth Aerodyne sleepers in them as well. The similarity leads to easy confusion. I'm sure more than one of the trucks with KW sleepers I've seen were actually one of these Doonan conversions from back in the day.

Yep, they are very similar. Not sure trucks of this era ever went through a wind tunnel, but whatever equivalent they did on paper to calculate the ideal shape, it was probably done by the same guy who designed the Aerodyne. The general top shape is almost identical, just a few different angles.

It does look like some of them came with custom aerokits, as pictured by the extenders on the real thing above. Some also seem to have a whale tail style wing.

@AntonioMart Of course! :)

One thing that kept bothering me was that I couldn't quite nail the A pillar. Like most vehicles that old, it is almost comically narrow with the doors practically touching the windshield trim. This looks like a tiny fix but since everything has to fit within the confines of proportions practically impossible to find, all I had to redo was the cabin, the doors, the roof, the windshield and all the trim until I got it right :)

Here's a before and after -

Anyway, the exterior is now getting very close to finished. Aside from the 36 inch bunk previously shown in this thread, it will have a daycab and two 63 inch sleepers; the standard flattop and the Doonan cap.

This is going to be a nice addition to my fleet of old school Pete 352s @Outlaw Transport ! Any plans on setups with headache racks and possibly wet kits?
