Cascadia Dreamworld Update

#1 Post by Optional Features » 16 May 2022 03:24

Since the Cascadia seems to be getting the most attention of all the trucks in the game, I figured it would be a good time to discuss a dreamworld update for the truck that would really cement its place as the most up to date vehicle in the program (and hopefully result in similar changes to other trucks).

Some things I'd like to see:

Exterior

Fog lights. The Cascadia should be the first truck in the game to get functional foglights. They are modeled; they look great; they should work.

[ external image ]

Opening windows. Being able to slide or adjust these windows in game would greatly increase the realism of the ownership experience.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Opening doors, hoods, and panels. Given SCS's good relationship with Daimler Trucks North America, getting the necessary approvals to represent Detroit engines in game could open the door (literally) for opening hoods in the game. Side and main doors would be nice to have as well, even if we can't get out. If we could, being able to store stuff in these side doors (like gloves, load securement devices, small tarps, oversize flags, etc.) would be amazing.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Functional cab suspension. The model is nice, but the cab doesn't move. The Cascadia should be the first truck in the game to get a moving cab like all the ETS2 trucks have.

[ external image ]

Functional rear worklights. Again, these are nice details, but they would be very helpful in dark yards when hooking up a trailer.

[ external image ]

Fillable DEF. We have the tank and blue cap. We appear to have the indicator on the dash. Now we need the ability to separately fill def (and keep track of it) as we drive. A small animation showing the cap come off and a jug of liquid poured in would be amazing.

[ external image ]

Dual fuel tank filling. Since we already have to be within a confined space to fill the truck, it would be amazing to see some animation of hoses going into each tank. Typically truckers fill both at the same time, and it would be nice if the game had some indication of this happening visually.

[ external image ]

Animated mudflaps. Would be nice to see the Cascadia be the first truck to have moving mudflaps at speed. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something.

[ external image ]

Animated fifth wheel. Would also be nice to see the fifth wheel rest on the frame when disconnected and flex with the trailer when connected. A different position for the handle when connected/disconnected would be an additional plus.

[ external image ]

Animated airbag suspension. Since the airbags are responsible for frame height, they should show a visible difference when raised or lowered.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Animated HVAC fan. Would be nice to see this turn on depending on settings in the cab.

[ external image ]

Wheel lean. The Cascadia steer tires should lean when cranked all the way in one direction.

[ external image ]
[ external image ]

Interior

Visibly animated air ride seat. Would be nice if seat adjustments in the F4 menu were represented by visible adjustments to the height/position of the seat in the cab. Would also be nice if the seat operated as an air ride seat which bounced with bumps in the road. And would be nice if we could lower and raise the armrests.

[ external image ]

Clickable dash buttons. The Cascadia has the most dash options of all the trucks in the game. Would be nice if there was a mode to click options on or off (and see appropriate switch animations).

[ external image ]

Amongst these buttons are ones for interior lights. Would be nice to have those as well, toggleable for the player.

[ external image ]

In addition, it would be nice to be able to plug a virtual phone into these USB ports or charge another device with the electrical outlets. And would be nice to adjust the HVAC system fan levels (with corresponding sound), the heat/cool levels (that would affect the driver comfort level on a health bar), and the position of all the vents.

Animated gas and brake pedal. Would be nice if these moved.

[ external image ]

Cubbies and cabinets. Would be nice to be able to store things in these, from maps and documents to a virtual owner's manual and even clothing for the driver warddrobe. Would also be nice to be able to mount a CB in the middle of the headliner.

[ external image ]
[ external image ]
[ external image ]
[ external image ]

Animated horn pull. Would be nice to see this move as well, or be able to click on it and toggle the horn.

[ external image ]

Activated interior addons. Would be nice to be able to click on this map and have a "printed" version of the game map come up with turnable pages (obviously when stopped). Or be able to click on a clipboard with load information and see a "printed" bill of lading.

[ external image ]

[ external image ]

Seatbelts. Would be nice to be able to activate the seatbelt before driving, even if it was a simple click and the visual indication the latch was in the receptacle.

[ external image ]

TV and Microwave. Would be nice to be able to turn these on and play with basic functions. For the TV, a series of streams from SCS or maybe some various DLC trailers. For the microwave, at least the clock. Again, this is a dreamworld, so in it, the player can cook food stored in the cabinets to raise the driver's energy bar.

[ external image ]

Animated curtains for sleeper. Again for realism, curtains would allow the player to close off the world at the end of the day, and do something fun in the sleeper. Maybe watch something on the TV, cook and eat something, or use a laptop to search for more loads/drivers/trucks/trailers or just browse game-related news.

[ external image ]

Animated fold down bed. At the end of the "day" when the player is done with after driving activities, it would be nice to fold down the bed and get a nice night's rest.

Again, the title of this thread is dreamworld. In a dreamworld, all of these things would be possible in the game. In reality, hopefully some will be possible at some point.

Furthermore, if your only response is "go play another game", "make your own game", or "go drive a truck for a living", please refrain: I've heard all of those more than enough times.

I don't find how this is different from any of your similar posts in other threads but fine.

I think foglights should be functional within what the game could currently offer. We already have fog during rain. Windows could be chosen between Open/Close/Blackout in the tuning options; so are the curtains and such in the interior.

It really isn't tbh, but it's specific to the Cascadia. Since this truck is getting a ton of attention lately, maybe (definitely not realistically) it could get something a bit more engaging.

You could have just written
"I just want EVERYTHING on a truck to be functional"

You do realize you just described about 12 years worth of development with SCS's speed, right?

That would be amazing! It would be like a Cessna in flight sim: so many functions, so little time!

More than that lol: probably three games. I don't really expect any of this stuff to happen ever, but that's why I call it a dreamworld lol.

In a dreamworld, I could be content with a default truck, trailer, sounds, map, cargo, traffic, everything. And it would be more fun than I'm currently able to muster with tons of mods.

It's good that you finally uderstand it, so you can enjoy things in your dreams, after you suffered enough from reality

Well, to be honest, the parts mentioning foglights, mudflaps, the fifth wheel, airbags, cab suspension, seat suspension, and the HVAC unit fan shouldn't need to be asked for.

But that's a whole different story.

If we're talking about things that should be added to the Cascadia, I would also like to mention again that the 60 inch sleeper cabs and 116 inch BBC hoods are missing from ATS. It's a shame that we don't have them as it makes it very difficult to recreate some very common configurations from the real world.

Truck with both 60 inch sleeper and 116 inch BBC hood:

Another thing that has been frustratingly missing from the Cascadia since its release is the 12 inch cab extenders for the 72 inch XT and RR cabs. SCS only gave the 20 and 24 inch options for these cabs, even though 12 inch extenders are used commonly on the real truck.
