Understeer physics flaw

#1 Post by Unster » 28 May 2022 19:37

In this particular case, the trucks behave opposite to real life.

1. Accelerate to a moderate speed (for example 80 km/h) and start turning sharply left or right to trigger an understeer condition.
2. Hit the brakes hard.
3. Truck will suddenly start turning sharply or overturn, instead of going more straight.

This is opposite to real life. Slamming the brakes in this situation would REDUCE steering, since the front wheels are already beyond the traction limit. Observed in ATS too of course.

Hopefully this is fixed. Tires in game have way too much grip: they are almost glued to the road.

Yes, dry roads particularly. Wet roads seem quite slippery to me, a bit too much as if the tires are hydroplaning most of the time.

Agreed: I wish I could set my brakes while moving and slide a little. I've seen and heard people do it irl, and it makes a horrible noise lol.

8 Days, no dev response. It appears they will not be fixing this bug.

As a start please create a proper bug report
Please note a fairly large number of reports has no response but even so fixed in a later update

This signature virus has been spliced with the Fundementalism-B virus to create a new more contagious strain. Please look for it infecting a signature near you.

No reply doesn't mean much. I'm sure a dev has seen the report but they have no comment at this time, and it's probably something they haven't decided yet if they will fix. I imagine it's low priority for them. But I'd say it's more important than the FFB understeer effect that they added recently which I find useless and unrealistic anyway, so I have it turned off.

Speaking of understeer, I did some testing yesterday and I feel there's more of it in the current version that in past version. Good. I don't mean while braking hard, but when just turning hard at higher speeds.

What's really missing is a tire screeching sound though. The devs should have added that before the FFB effect as that's more important and it would clearly tell the player that understeer is happening.
