West Balkans Expansion Discussion
Re: West Balkans Expansion Discussion
As far as I know it's not unusual in western europe to have people give a name to a certain location, be it a crossroads, a bridge or even a house.
Those are used, appear on (detailed) maps, and serve to uniquely identify places, originating from well before the post office invented street names and house numbers.
I have no idea if it's the case in the USA too, or not.

Yeah I was just getting confused by the "it's a roundabout" wording. Like I said, squares, plazas, circles, circuses, etc are probably the closest analogue in western Europe, but it's not quite the same situation as far as I understand it. Paris has lots of named roundabouts but I imagine you'd probably still refer to them as being located in whichever arrondisement they reside in, rather than as independent top-level features of the city like Bogoslovija seems to be. That seems to be the main difference between how western Europe treats place names and how Belgrade treats place names.gaillard wrote: ↑15 Aug 2022 10:34 As far as I know it's not unusual in western europe to have people give a name to a certain location, be it a crossroads, a bridge or even a house.

Wow, imagine that I told you about the name of the street "Partizanska ulica". By the way, the mentioned street is close to the roundabout of the "Bogoslovije". There is a funny name for this street. By the way, that street today has the official name of Dragoslav Srejovića. We used to call that street "Bandite strasse" of course it was a joke name, You can still hear someone say "Bandite strasse" in Belgrade. Of course, I also sometimes say that name jokingly, because I am an older person who was born during Tito's reign.

Still missing 1, 6, 7, 8, and possibly 5, let's try to find those locations.
Re: West Balkans Expansion Discussion
I've read through the roundabout discussion and while I don't quite understand what's the issue here (since it's probably about language differences and how people call things) I have one example from my own city - we have here a roundabout, one of many. It has its patron (if you can call it that way), there's still officially "roundabout" in the name. However, the place is so distinctive on the city map, so if you say to a local "let's meet near roundabout" they'll know exactly what you mean. And there's no other way of translating it to English, as there's no a/the here.
So at least Bogoslavija has a name

Hey, we have a roundabout in Ruse that is also called 'the Roundabout'. Nice. It was even available in ProMods Ruse before RttBS came out.

Re: West Balkans Expansion Discussion
Slovenia should get both Ljubljana and Maribor as marked. Maybe even Bled as a small dot to get us an excuse to see Lake Bled.
BiH could also get Bijeljina or Brčko as marked. Those seem pretty important. Brčko would be more so just to get each region of BiH in, but Bijeljina could definitely get a big dot.
Serbia I'd like to see Subotica come as marked too. Lots of good depot possibilities there.
Kosovo I could see getting 2 cities. Might be room for Prizren or Mitrovica. Could be tight though.
Albania I think it's pretty safe to say that Vlorë will be marked based on screenshot evidence.
I think about 30 cities overall is a decent estimate, including small dots.

Re: West Balkans Expansion Discussion
My wishes for Slovenia.
Marked towns:
- Ljubljana: capital city, located on important highway junction, several industrial zones
- Maribor: second biggest city, economic center of eastern Slovenia
- Koper: coastal town, important due to the Port of Koper (orig. Luka Koper) which offers several cargo terminals: contaiter terminal (biggest in Adriatic), car/ro-ro terminal (biggest in Adriatic), general cargo, timber terminal, reefer terminal, livestock terminal, silo terminal etc.
Smaller dots/unmarked towns:
- Jesenice: located along A2 highway just south from Klagenfurt, industrial town (metallurgy) with a lot of socialist infrastructure, right now there is also a big construction site of the second Karavanke tunnel tube
- Novo mesto: located along A2 highway halfway between Ljubljana and Zagreb, scenic old town center, strong industry: pharmacy (KRKA), car industry (Revoz/Renault), caravans/motorhomes industry (Adria Mobil)
