German Cities Rework Discussion (Post-Austria)

#1 Post by oldmanclippy » 17 Jun 2022 15:19

With the announcement that Hannover will be the first post-Austria rework arriving in 1.45, I thought it would be a good idea to get a consolidated discussion thread for this and all future city reworks in Germany.
SCS Blog 17/6/22 Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.45 - Hannover Rework wrote:Finally, while only the city of Hannover will receive a fresh coat of paint at the moment, more is to come in the future.

This is absolutely fantastic news! They teased reworking German cities in an interview a while back (I think in the same one where they discussed the Heart of Russia situation), and I'm happy to see this missing link with the Germany rebuild get its day.

I wonder when Hamburg will be looked at. It's a bit of an interesting one since it was remade in the first Germany Rework update, and while the accessible area got the basic reskin they also took the time to create a beautiful rendition of the Port of Hamburg that you can only drive past. That makes me think Hamburg will be on the agenda fairly early on.

The interview is here from July 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBXfzksG9IQ&t=5726s

Here's the Youtube-translated English so be aware there could be inaccuracies:
Pavel wrote:For example, we redid the road network in Germany, but we didn't manage to redo the cities yet, and the cities remain there as an internal debt. You know, it's a huge task, our standards have significantly increased. Originally, Germany was built by one person in a year. Today, 25 people work on one project for 1.5 years, and it still isn't enough. The level of detail has increased so much.

Thank you for finding that quote!

To get the easy spots out the way, Image 2 is Hindenburgschleuse Anderten. I think Image 4 is likely to be here. Image 12 is here, with that background building being this. Image 13 is here, and I believe Image 14 is here.

I think the fact that we're getting a big convention centre as a delivery destination is really exciting! Side note, this was actually teased in that behind the scenes concept art showcase blog, under Karina's section with these two images.

Hannover seems like a slightly odd choice to start with for me. Munich would have made sense given Austria rework has just been completed, or Osnabrück/ Bremen would have also made sense seen as we're getting the Krone factory there. I'm happy to see us get Hannover but it just seems slightly random

@tomprice98 It sounds like they might have some sort of plan to do something in-game during the IAA event in Hannover later this year:
One of the most unique areas arriving in this rework will be the very famous Hannover Messe - one of the world’s largest trade halls and also one of our biggest challenges due to the fact that the part that we are adding is almost in a 1:1 scale. Dedicated to the topic of industry development, trucks and trailers always take the spotlight during the IAA event, which is an exhibition for commercial vehicles and a chance for brands to showcase their constant technological advancements and evolution. Perhaps this area might come in handy later this year, who knows?

Image 5 is of VW Gießerei, a gigantic Volkswagen factory and a no-brainer inclusion.

Interesting that Hannover will be the first German city to be reworked. It's not particularly one of the largest cities in the country. Maybe the revamps start with it due to its central position in the map?

I agree with Janaff, regarding the locations of 12-14

Copying my post from SCS General Discussion Thread.
4 of the locations. Screenshots 2/14 12/14 13/14 and 14 /14 on Google Maps.

Totally possible that the Hannover-Messe could have future depot function.
NTM's B-Double Telescopic Skeletal Container Carrier. Youtube video on how it works. W & S thread.
B-Double trailer and short modes: EN 7.82 swap body, 20’ or 30’ containers.
Standalone 40' mode: EN 7.82 swap body, 20', 30', 40' or 2 x 20' trailer.

I think they likely got an industry partnership related to the IAA event in September, and decided to capitalize on it by modeling the convention hall in-game. Thus Hannover as the first selection.
