again, structure is the same.
It depends if you are using steam cloud, or not. If you are using steam cloud for your saves, then it is in steam_profiles folder. Current folder does not have .bak expansion. Those are backup folders. Every time game is updating, it makes backup of your profile folder, just in case.
If you are not using steam cloud, it will be in profiles folder.
after that, you have numbers - which is hex representation of your profile name. easiest to find, when you just leave your profile, so you can see current modification date.
so, you can find this file here:
/profiles/12345543/controls.sii
or
steam_profiles/87654321/controls.sii

Re: Thinking about switching from ETS2 to ATS...
FWIW, to answer one of your original questions, Eureka, CA to Tucumcari, NM (which almost certainly isn't the longest possible journey but equally probably isn't that far off it) is 1,532 miles and would probably take you somewhere between one and a half and two hours of real time driving, probably closer to the former given that some of the speed limits outside of CA are considerably higher than the ETS2 speed limiter setting. By contrast Lisbon, P to Kouvola, FI is nearly 2,600 miles and would almost certainly take more than three hours real time.
Cheers, Steve
