Switching to a new computer/ wd10 to 11
Switching to a new computer/ wd10 to 11
Hey all,
My coveted new computer has finally arrived, and it’s time to prep and get ready to get ATS rolling on it. Additionally, I’ll be going from windows 10 to 11 as well.
Anything I need to do? I’ll have steam cloud activated, with all but my landscape mods found in the steam workshop.
I would prefer to keep my profile going (I just finished my 12 runs for cruising Montana) and would hate to lose that due to a mistake on my end.
Everything seems pretty straightforward, it’s mostly going from the 10 to 11 that I’m not sure about.
And of course if you think I’m computer savvy, you are way off base. I know enough to screw things up.
Thanks in advance, I’m sure I’ll pick up some pointers I haven’t already read during searches.

Don't remove any game from the old PC until you've installed and run them on the new one. That way if you discover you need to copy save files over, you still have them.

I copied the contents off my old computer. Everything from: Documents, Pictures, Desktop, Music, and Video.
I used a 2TB passport drive I have. It took about 45 minutes to copy over everything. Once I fired up the new machine and installed Steam and all my related games, all of the save data was there and I never lost a thing. The most important folder is your my documents folder, as that hosts a number of save games from multiple different games, usually.

As a follow up, everything went smoothly. I downloaded the game without a hitch, steam mods were all there and synched up with WOT site. I got the aftermarket mods setup no issues as well.
W11 is pretty easy to navigate, and no issues with any games or controllers.
I’m still dialing in the settings on the new system, but with a high end system liquid cooled system with a 3090TI as a card, I’m very impressed.

Very cool.
My only complaint with Windows 11 is you can't move the taskbar. I run multiple monitors, and set the taskbars on the outside edges.... W11 doesn't allow you to move the bar. Small thing, otherwise, basically status quo in a new wrapper.

Re: Switching to a new computer/ wd10 to 11
I hear you regarding Windows 11. I have 10 at work, and navigating on 11 is pretty much the same, just a few nuances that are different enough to make me think for a second. I did a lot of dialing in settings this last week, and I have everything running smooth. I found some good (and not so good) tutorials on YouTube that really helped get the 3090 dialed in. I’m going to add 32gb of RAM, which will max the available RAM at 64GB (I’m running Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 at 6000mhz, and for some reason they max at 16mb sticks.) which should smooth out the last of the sags. So far I’m really enjoying the set up.

Be careful on Window 11! before I had window 10 and then I install Windows 11, it was working fine without any problem but I got the update on widows 11. after installing the update everything was messed up. the game was lagging too much and steam app as well so for solving the issue I uninstalled the Windows 11 update then it start working fine. and be careful with Geforce experience, if your game is working fine, my suggestion do not update your windows 11 and Geforce experience app.

I've heard 11 has a lot of problems if you update to it. NIKKUKUNNU149 just confirmed that.
My 10 is messed up. Not sure if it's from the last update or not. My cookies aren't working so every site I belong to makes me sign in every time. I've tried to fix in myself but it ain't workin'. I'm thinking of getting my 8.1 computer going again. Everything worked fine with it. Way more better than 10.
And suggestions would be appreciated.

Been smoothly running Win11 update on my machine since Mid July/Early August 2022. No issues at all.
Games run fine. Software runs fine. System runs stable.
I'll laugh about 8/8.1 though.... that was, bar-none, windows WORST iteration in my memory. I stuck with Windows 7 until Windows 10 was established.

The update is fine now. I have no issues now, however I was experiencing quite a lot of large fps drops and stuttering, which I knew had to do with the windows update. And I was even having issues with the Map Editor while working on some stuff for my mod.NIKKUKUNNU149 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2022 07:02 Be careful on Window 11! before I had window 10 and then I install Windows 11, it was working fine without any problem but I got the update on widows 11. after installing the update everything was messed up. the game was lagging too much and steam app as well so for solving the issue I uninstalled the Windows 11 update then it start working fine. and be careful with Geforce experience, if your game is working fine, my suggestion do not update your windows 11 and Geforce experience app.
Nothing to say here anymore.
