Hunting Unlimited (2010) Render Distance

#1 Post by Lyle13 » 22 Aug 2022 06:26

Hello!

I was just wondering, has anyone ever tried rendering in grass and other objects at much further distances than the highest default settings? Is it possible?

Thank you!

This is doable, and if my memory serves me right, this was among the key features in the Hunting Unlimited 2010 Powerpack modpack. HU Corner's website isn't available anymore unfortunately, but their Facebook Page has downloads available for all of their old mods!

Pretty neat stuff they did!

At https://www.facebook.com/hucorner it's all within the Google Drive link in their pinned post :D

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to leave links here but I am. If it's against any rules, I'll either take it down or somebody with authority over me will do it for me, I have a class in an hour, I have to be ready lol :|

Great thanks! I’ll finally give it a try. I see all of the work you have put into trying to implement new animals into the mix. Hope you have great success!

If you are still working on it, do you plan on implementing any rare animal furs?

That's interesting you bring that up.

It's entirely possible to add fur variants to the game, although I'm not quite sure how to approach giving some fur types different spawn rates.

Ironically, this is something I looked into for a solution originally to the custom animal thing; adding a custom skin that appears different. Ideally I'll have two primary focus modpacks, one that will focus on realism, actually simulating a hunting experience, then one that's a bit more arcadey, a bit more hokey and overall less realistic.

So depending on what you mean, you'll see color variations that range from realistic and common to literally impossible. Same with maps, when it comes to maps I'd love to add some regions of Asia into the mix, Australia too and I also want to try and add some more regions of Africa for instance. One could argue that the normal Africa Map basically covers the continent but I feel if you can have Northern/Southern/Central Rockies all in the same place, then why not have multiple locales on each continent.

Same with South America, by the *end* end of my endeavors here, I want to have a Hunting Unlimited experience that extends to every major region of the world, and one that has many, MANY more animals than what are currently in the game. I understand that some ideas I do have and may implement could conflict with regional hunting laws, conservation efforts and such, for example, I plan to add tigers to the game. Yeah, that's not quite realistic, but it's a fun idea, and that's kind of the point of it being a video game.

And skin variants and such, those are absolutely on the plate for me, just on the back burner a little. It's something I want to tackle but I have to take care of the act of getting custom animals to consistently load, after which, I can learn how the spawning rates and such work, and at that point I'll start talking about 4th skins for each animal. Possibly gender variants for the young versions of each animal, and even something like a "growing" variety, an animal that isn't quite fully grown yet, but is pretty close.

I do want to focus on depth and what you've brought up is certainly a step I'd like to take, unfortunately I have been away from the game (and gaming in general) because I just got moved into college less than a week ago and the whole process of planning that out, getting it done, and just getting my land legs for the school year has been chaotic, but I'll chip away at it as far as I can.

Wow that’s great to hear! It sounds like you have a lot of ambition for this game. I think adding regions and all sorts of animals is a great idea. So based on what you’re saying, you will be creating some sort of new mod for this game in the future if all goes well? I would love to see what additions you add and can’t wait to hear updates.

I have no background in coding and blending and such, or this is a game I would certainly start with as well. I have been in and out of replacing coding in games but never created and modified codes. Just replacing and slightly modifying things in some games.

I really like the route you plan on going and can’t wait for updates! Hope college is going well, I know how that can be!
