Very short nights / polar day everywhere

SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

Very short nights / polar day everywhere

#1 Post by detourist » 25 Sep 2022 23:37

Edit 01 Nov 2022:
I have revisited and rounded up this mod, or better: these mods. You find the links below, ETS2 (two versions) and ATS.
Also I hope the preview videos help to understand what this does.

____

If you don't like night driving, but enjoy sunrise and sunset, then with this mod you'll get very short nights, or none at all, depending on your position.

It is not a realistic simulation of polar day. Actually, the game already does that. You might even want to disable this mod in Scandinavia or further to the North.

I was happy to find an „old“ (-1.39) mod, thanks to a ProMods forum thread. ProMods forum member Grattanus shared a similar mod called JourPolaire there. @piva is mentioned as an inspirational source, so shoutout and thanks to him!

I took the idea, but unfortunately I couldn't make complete sense of the values in it. So I took the time to test it with ETS2, research sunsets and sunrises at different latitudes on different days during the summer, and tested the in-game result in cities north and south.

The position of the sun is calculated in the game. The amount of daylight varies according to your position. During summer, further up North you get a lot more daylight, and there's even "polar day" above ≈67°N, where the sun never really sets. Even at places where the sun sinks a little below the horizon, we don't get pitch black nights.

This mod basically pushes our map to the North to make our days longer.

Very interesting...Should I enable time zone or let it disabled?

Interesting question. Personally, I have them disabled. But they shouldn't affect the length of the nights.

If you observe effects from time zones, then please let us know!

Updated. Added links to the three versions, and preview videos.

Would love to get your feedback!

Happy to hear! :)

I wonder how many don't like night driving like you do. Yes, you can set the time on the console, but that's less immersive IMHO.
