Ancona, Italy inaccessible road end [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by Unster » 21 Nov 2022 07:40

There's a tail end of a road that appears on the map but is blocked off by the game's barriers.

I see the [not a bug] tag was added to my post. Can a moderator or SCS explain how this is not a bug? Of course it's a minor issue, but I haven't seen this anywhere else both in ETS2 and ATS.

Simple. You've discovered a prefab, that has one blocked exit.

Indeed. It's part of this whole intersection and if it shows as discovered, even though it's behind the dead end blocker, it's fine. You can find such prefab in several locations, so I'm pretty sure this 'issue' happens there as well.

OK, that explains why it happened, but it's inconsistent with most of the game where inaccessible roads are not shown on the navigation map. And when you have those blockers turned off and the map shows you can go there, it's deceptive.

It's not inconsistent. In your case the whole intersection is one prefab and in other cases the intersection may be made of several standalone segments. Every prefab is displayed/explored as a whole and every segment of road is displayed/explored as a whole. This behavior is consistent throughout the whole map, intersection prefabs are just used less.
A bug in this case would be some segment of road behind the crosses that would not be explorable in the UI map, but you can see in your screenshot that it's all explored (yellow).

Yes, I see the road segment shows as explored on the map, but my point is with the blockers visibility turned off which is now possible, it's easy to run into unexpected barriers by following the map. When the blockers were always visible, it wasn't an issue. But I don't really want to turn them back on because they break the immersion and make the world uglier.

So yes, I understand technically it's not a bug, but the way the map works (where inaccessible road segments inside prefabs are shown) is not a very good system. Please consider it a suggestion for improvement.
