Downloaded this for 1.48. I can build it, buy it but when I try to use it, it completely crashes the game. Fresh profile, vanilla map and only this as a mod, still happens. What am I missing?

I had some problems with the truck and tried launching ATS with a different launcher like DirectX11 and I think it fixed it.

Official release is always available on truckymods.io

Don't download from the other mod aggregator sites -- it may not be the author's upload.

Can confirm @EricF. There are so many crappy re uploads of it out there. And sadly, I can't do anything about it. If you follow what @SqrlNuts said and head over to my discord, I'd be happy to help. If you don't have discord, you can always PM me here with your game log and I'll figure it out. I'm not super active here though. Early versions of it had issues with black textures in OpenGL, but as far as I know those have all been taken care of.
