Help using ferries...

#1 Post by Dave_K » 07 Dec 2022 17:38

New user here,

twice i have used a ferry and been late both times, also when i disembark I get this loud music playing??

What is the correct way to use a ferry and how do i stop this blasted music - in the menu its controlled by the slider "UI Music"

Thanks

Hi Dave - the music is motivational to encourage you to get a move on, it's a side effect of being late and just coincidence that you've only heard it coming off ferries. The mod 'Sound Fixes Pack' will get rid of that as well as adding/altering/removing a swathe of other sounds.

Your lateness isn't specifically because of ferries, in fact I generally relax a bit on ferry trips because i find them easier to manage. What setting is your navigation on? 'Shortest' or 'best' or similar is generally quickest....

Thanks,

Nav is on "Best"

Its a bit confusing - i get to the ferry terminal, it offers me the routes, i choose the best one and press "Embark" then the sat nav seems to go into selecting another route and nothing happens to the ferry crossing, i repeat the selection and the next thing i know there is the music......

Just seems a bit odd but probably my fault

ofc because the ferry advances time, if you have 9hr lest for the job before the ferry and the ferry takes 8 hr you only have 1 hr to finish and the music starts

That makes sense thanks.

Does the boarding/sat nave thing sound right?

I don't think so....

I have never tried to embark on the 'wrong' ferry route - I always hit 'M' just before driving onto the ferry trigger to make sure which destination is the correct one. But iirc I hit 'Embark', it fades to a loading screen while it loads the destination, and I drive off. Your description reads like there's an extra step involved, and if you are choosing the less than optimal ferry route, it's likely you're going to be late.

One other thing - if you have fatigue simulation turned on, don't get tricked into 'sleeping' shortly before embarking - longer ferry trips also allow recuperation while on board, so if you 'sleep' before embarking, you have effectively thrown 9 hours away....

You should only need to Embark once and should then find yourself sitting in a largely empty ferry at your chosen destination. If you are selecting Embark multiple times you are probably hitting Enter whilst sat in your destination port and going back and forth.

I think what i did was first time i slept as well so was late, second one i chose a sub optimal route. Today I tried and it worked perfectly :)

If your close to needing to sleep, don’t sleep before the ferry, you gain drive time while on the ferry, since your technically at rest.
