Seems to be like W990. It might replace 389 (and W900 for Kenworth) if the market will accept it as a replacement. :D
I have approximate knowledge of many things

Yes, it is true. Just like the W990 was supposed to replace the W900, but something went wrong...

No that is not true. Nothing went wrong. There's a video with a comparison stating that the W990 was made to be just a modern day option to the W900 for those that want it. The W990 is now 5 years old. Video was 3 years ago........before covid and the W9 is still around. Even on last week's Kenworth 100 stream, the ladies at Kenworth stated they still get a lot of sales request for the W900. As long as O/O and people that want the W9, it will still be there. Paccar is not Daimler replacing models. You can't assume everyone follows in the footsteps of others.

By "something wrong" I meant that the manufacturer offered a "modern classic", but the trackers were not ready to part with the real classic.

The W900 100th Anniversary Edition is living proof that the W990 is not a replacement for the W900. The W990 is just a more modern version. And as Flight said, the last week Stream, the Kenworth ladies said about that they of Kenworth still receive a lot of orders of the W900.

Can you point to the exact timestamp where he says this was the reason why Kenworth did this?
Because I watched this video and the only thing he says is pretty much: "you're lucky to have the option".

And to my knowledge, the W990 was meant to replace the W900, which does make sense, because having 2 competing, almost identical, "flagships" on the market is dumb. But Kenworth had to keep the W900 to keep their sales, because W990 was a sales flop. And the fact, that it didn't get 100th edition treatment, further strengthens the point.

With Peterbilt, people might be more accepting when it comes to the change, because the truck doesn't change that much between 389 and 589 and Peterbilt changes their "flagship" fairly regularly anyways.

I'd have to re-watch myself. It's been awhile since I watched the entire thing. But my statement stands, the W9 will stick around as long as people want it. I don't think the ladies at Kenworth would have mentioned it has high sales if it was endanger of being replaced. But the video pretty much shows the modern day updates for all to see.

I'd say the W900 will stick around for as long as people don't want the W990, but I can assure you, the moment W990 sales surpass the W900, it will be gone. Though given how traditional and "nostalgia-locked" Americans are, it won't happen anytime soon.

Unpopular opinion: The best strategy to sell electric trucks in the US is to make electric versions of the 389 and the W900.

(P.S: Please don’t foe me for this)

I mean you're not wrong.
Personally I hope these manufacturers (and politicians) figure out that other alternative fuels are more interesting than electricity for the purpose of hauling cargo.
