The C/FD preview has been updated to include all cities in the states of Montana and Oklahoma.

I haven't actually been to Montana a lot—I'm saving much of it to explore later. Covering Montana anyway here was made possible by using Bedavd's ATS IRL Map, which is basically an overlay to Google Maps. As a result, some details in the descriptions of Montana cities won't be quite accurate in the C/FD. These inaccuracies are caused by my use of the map, not by Bedavd. For example, a street may be named "First Street" on Google Maps, but without checking it out in ATS myself, I have no way of knowing whether SCS put a sign into the game that actually says "First Street". Usually I just have to assume that they did.

I don't believe this is much of a problem. In most cases, having some information available will be much better than having none at all.

The cities I haven't been to yet myself are clearly marked on the C/FD status overview map as well as in the C/FD itself. I use the term "not field-checked" for this purpose.

Oklahoma cities are unaffected by the above. I have been to all of them.

I'm undecided about how to approach Kansas once it arrives. I'm leaning towards giving it the "Montana treatment" :) ... we'll see. In the meantime, I'll keep working on east and south Texas for a bit.

The November 2023 preview release of the C/FD only received minor changes since October: I added a few repair shops and Special Transport tags to Colorado and Oklahoma, some of which I had missed before and some of which are new in 1.49.

The supplement for Texas is expanded and now covers all cities in the east and south of the state up to and including I-35 and US 90.

The December 2023 preview release of the C/FD is now available. It has been updated to include all cities in the state of Kansas.

Feel free to enjoy this as an early xmas present! 🎄🎁 Adding Kansas this quickly has once again been made possible by Bedavd's work on the ATS IRL Map. I have driven through Kansas in the game, but am not nearly familiar enough with any of the cities at this point. Therefore, all Kansas cities are currently marked "not field-checked" in the C/FD. I plan to visit them all and update the location descriptions as needed eventually (might take a while).

The February 2024 preview release of the C/FD is now available. Content-wise, there are no major updates in this release. It expands the supplement for Texas, and one city in Kansas has been field-checked.

The primary change in this release is the introduction of a new page numbering system: Where previously pages were simply numbered sequentially throughout the entire document, page numbers now include the state abbreviation. For example: Wichita, Kansas is now on page KS-12 (previously page 43). This means that page numbers of existing content will no longer change drastically when new chapters are inserted.

Furthermore, new download options are offered via the C/FD repository on GitHub. Going forward, "official" preview releases will only happen for major updates, such as the addition of new states. To bridge the gap between releases, updated PDF files are now automatically generated on GitHub after every single change. These automatically generated PDFs are also available as individual PDF files per state.

Last weekend marked one year since the first C/FD preview was published here. Hooray! 🥳

During this time, I added almost 100 new cities, bringing us to a total of 155 of 205 cities in the game today. That's an average of approximately 8 new cities per month. A little less than I had hoped, but I'm still fully on track for having location descriptions in the C/FD completed for more or less every city in ATS in the fall of 2024.

The first "full" C/FD release (= non-preview version) will likely not have much content beyond city location descriptions. Sure, we might need some front and back matter we don't have yet, such as perhaps an introduction, legend, city register and so on. But I'd really like to keep it to the minimum needed to make the C/FD viable as a product. Additional features or content can always be added later on.

I haven't spent much time thinking about design or layout in the past year. But I have to say that I've kind of gotten used to seeing only text in the directory, as opposed to highway route shields or facility icons. So I'm considering dropping the plan to design those icons and shield graphics.

With page numbers about to go into three figures, I'm also considering to increase the paper size to something close to regular A4 / letter office paper. If you actually print out a hard copy, this might make it simpler to work with it in practice—easier to collate and fewer pages to turn.

That said, my main focus for the next couple of months will continue to be on closing content gaps. I expect to finally complete Texas soon, and will also begin work on California with phase 3 of the rebuild becoming available. However, I'm open to adjusting these plans based on any feedback you might have. I'd love to hear from you! :) Feel free to reply below in this thread (or by PM, if you prefer).

All companies should have a place to rest. Or a motel nearby.
I've slept at many companies lots as I arrived too late to unload and no other place was nearby to sleep at. And no diners so I had to make sure I had something to eat and drink when I got there if no diner was close by. Not all real-life companies are open all day and night to pick up or deliver loads like they are in ATS and ETS2.

I've hauled ass down the road to deliver new cars and trucks, fuel, freight, and produce. Now I'm addicted to ATS doing the same thing in a simulation.

I'm not really sure what you mean. The directory's goal is to give accurate information. If there is no place of rest at a company in the game, I won't pretend otherwise in the C/FD.

I don't make stuff up.

The August 2024 preview release of the C/FD is now available. It has been updated to include all cities in the state of Nebraska.

This new preview is also updated for changes in ATS up to open beta version 1.51.0.53. This includes new company locations along I-44 in Oklahoma City as well as additional gas station brands in the game economy.

I've also started work on the rebuilt parts of California. The Golden State is now finally listed in the supplement, which is released alongside the C/FD preview edition. So far, four cities in the Bay Area are completed, with more to be added soon. Just as a reminder, the best way to get the latest changes to the C/FD is to use the links in the "Download" section in the GitHub readme, below the status overview map:

The October 2024 preview release of the C/FD is now available. It has been updated to include all cities in the states of Arkansas and Oregon.

The descriptions for most of the cities in Oregon were created by recycling the original driving directions I wrote as a test back in 2019 (see viewtopic.php?p=1258680). The result is acceptable, but could use a new field-check to account for updates SCS has been making to Oregon over the years. For example, natvander did a bunch of work improving road signs, which is of course is very useful for driving without navigation. The affected Oregon cities are marked with yellow diamonds on the status overview map.

The map also shows that work on California is well underway. I expect to complete it before the end of this year.
