Dilema about new GPU...

#1 Post by Vinnie P.B. » 26 Mar 2023 10:30

Hello, everyone,

After reading/watching dozens of videos, articles, forums and comparisons, I am still not completely convinced which of the 2 will be more suitable for ultra max settings, dozens of mods, no graphic/fps problems and absolutely smooth operation of ETS2/ATS:

RX 7900 XT or RTX 4070 Ti ?

Which would you prefer for the games and why? How do you think one will be better or worse than the other for the games?

I have 3070ti and no performance and run max setting scaling 400 on 1440p.

Worse at the current situation with the game engine because gpu utilization will drop and you get 40fps or so cities

The answer is NONE. Because most of the problems people have with performance in the game isn't due lack of graphic raw power.

More than probably, both those cards are to kill mosquitoes with cannons if you intend to play just SCS games. Better check what other kind of 3D rendered games you want to play and choose the card more suitable for those. Whatever you choose it will fit fine SCS games but still none of it is going to grant you nothing de facto; no matter how powerful it would be.

@Vinnie P.B. Absolutely smooth operation is impossible due to the lack of full support for multi-core processors. It has nothing to do with video cards. I looked at the benchmarks and saw a 10-15 FPS difference in favor of the 7900 XT in most games, but I would go with the RTX 4070 Ti due to the DLSS and in the case of ETS 2 we will have NPI anti-aliasing available. On the other hand, the 7900 XT will be able to provide a stable 60 FPS at native 4k + high scaling values, which will keep ladders and flickering to a minimum and we will not need NPI anti-aliasing, plus SSAO will work. If there is no difference in price, then it's more logical to buy the 7900 XT with a spare video memory for the future.

I don't know what graphics settings you plan to use, but I can give you a guideline. An RTX 3060 Ti-level graphics card can guarantee a stable 60 FPS in the latest DLC territories in the most difficult conditions with a performance margin of 15-20% at ultra graphics settings at 1080p + 400% scaling (or 4k + 100% scaling).

Thanx a lot fellas, I appreciate it!

Just thought if I change the recent 3060 Ti with some better and more powerful card, will play with everything settings, mods, futures, and so on MAX. Playing both sims regularly and I'm not satisfied that the FPS drops a LOT, on ultra settings get LAGGY screen, often some texture/assets POP UP in front of the truck, etc.
I use more then dozen mods and want all to be smooth and nice.

@Brian Benton Give me, show me that guideline, please!

P.S. If it's need, I'll show the PC spec.

Difficulty in translation, wrong word. I did not mean a guideline, but just information for reflection on the topic of which video card is capable of providing a stable 60 FPS in the game under any circumstances with certain graphics settings.

Search on YouTube. For example...
Just 3060:

The RX 7900 XT is based on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture and has 16GB of GDDR6 memory, while the RTX 4070 Ti is based on Nvidia's Ampere architecture and has 24GB of GDDR6X memory. The RX 7900 XT has better performance in DirectX 12 games and has better ray tracing performance compared to the previous generation AMD cards. On the other hand, the RTX 4070 Ti has better ray tracing performance compared to the RX 7900 XT and has DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology that can significantly improve performance without sacrificing image quality.

Both VRAM numbers are wrong. It's 20 GB for the AMD card and 12 GB for the NVidia one.
Also both are overkill by far if you only look at ETS2 and ATS. So the 3060ti is definitely more than enough, and it's the games that need to learn to use the *C*PU better.
