Volvo VNL - Too Harsh Suspension [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by Eggtooth » 26 May 2023 05:47

1.47.3.1s

Volvo VNL's suspension is way too harsh and unrealistic when cabin/suspension stiffness is at minimum on uneven surfaces.
I play at these settings:

(Use these settings to replicate the issue)

VNL's suspension is way too harsh, when uneven surface simulation is at maximum. Truck constantly shakes so much that it's downright unpleasant. Other trucks don't behave this way with these settings.

Take a look:
VNL:

57x:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgXDLqdrAFE

Happens on all cabin/chassis types.

Both at the start of the game. 57x feels way more natural, smoother and actually like the surface is uneven.

This has nothing to do with surface they're on or cabin suspension itself, the truck violently shakes like this even if I put cabin stiffness at max. VNL, without mods feels like I'm driving on uneven gravel all the time, while 57x feels like I'm driving on actual road.

Tested on clean profiles, two separate clean profiles, you can see in the log file that I have made two profiles to test this specifically.

So this is meant to be wobbly and unstable? What?

you compare a truck that got the new independent cabin suspension with a truck that still has the old simplified cabin suspension

It works better with a physics mod. If you are a vanilla player, then... I'm sorry for you.

With both suspension sliders set to lowest values? Yes

But I've just demonstrated that other trucks don't behave the same way, even with cabin suspension stiffness set to max, this wobble is present. I can record the video to prove that. 57x behaves way more naturally and doesn't shake like this. If you allow user to set values that destroy the feature, that's a bug, you aren't meant to allow something like this to happen, clearly.

It seems like people make mods already to mitigate this issue.

Well, of course the 57X will behave differently. It doesn't have cab suspension, at all.
It would be rather strange if a truck with actual cab suspension behaved in exact same way as a truck that doesn't have it.

The thing is, it's not the cab suspension. In ETS2, the bumps also behave similar to what 57x does with cabin suspension. It's the chassis suspension that seems way too harsh in VNL. You can notice that in the third person view. It wobbles so much.

However I don't know how else to describe this... so whatever then I suppose.

The thing is, this truck can't behave like older trucks because it is build different regarding on physics, as it was mentioned above. If they will redo the physics parameters only for this truck, it will broke all older trucks and most probably those will become like rocks with the most realistic values. Until every truck will use same suspension system, the only thing that SCS can do for this new truck, is adjusting the residual travel and it will have less impact for uneven roads.
