Unrealistic 70 mph speed limit in central Nevada

#1 Post by Unster » 03 Jun 2023 23:50

The first place is this rural highway that suddenly has twisty turns but it maintains the 70 mph speed limit. In real life, the turns would be more gentle or the speed limit would come down first. In the screenshot, I just passed them, going south.

The second place is on the western edge of Tonopah, where still in the city there's the rural 70 mph limit again, even though a little farther as you exit the city it becomes 35 which is reasonable for this location.

The first one I would say is not a big. In real life they would maintain the highway speed as is and just show a sign warning of the turns and a suggested speed under the sign for bigger vehicles.

Have you driven that section of the road? It's pretty bad. I have stability set to what I'd consider realistic and I really had to slam on the brakes to avoid overturning. I-80 in Nevada has some turns like that too (in the game, not real life), i.e totally inappropriate for the 70-80 mph speed limit. Nevada isn't like California where trucks have their own speed limit.

Nevada having 70 mph outside city limits is normal should not always go posted speed limit especially in truck.

I have and I don’t get up to 70 mph cause I know the trucks can’t make the turn. I’ve also actually driven on US highways and it’s exactly like that. You have a set speed for the highway, but there can be turns that even cars can’t navigate at that speed so they put warning signs for sharp curves.

A 70-mph highway wouldn't have turns like that. But yes, there can be turns that will have a speed warning ahead of them if the posted speed limit isn't appropriate for them. Those too are missing from the game. BTW, I live in Nevada.

The first one I suppose you could debate, but the the 2nd one is 100% a bug. Beta testers / QA should note that. That section was most likely meant to be 25 mph, as it then increases to 35.

Given that Nevada will likely be rebuilt after SCS is done rebuilding California, I think the road alignment and speed limit will be revised if and when they get to that.

I think so too, though it's possible for bugs to be carried over so it's good to note them now. Another one is the palm trees in cities in northern Nevada, which you won't see in real life. Hopefully after the rebuild, they stay in southern Nevada where they belong.
