Peterbilt 389 Tuning Ideas

#1 Post by 55sixxx » 09 Aug 2023 00:21

Following the W900 DLC release, a Tuning DLC Research thread should come in handy for the next packs

And although the W9 DLC is THE best Tuning Pack to date, it has misses. And this thread's main purpose is to remedy those misses in the future packs.

Starting with Peterbilt 389

Some may think that polished parts are the most common sight in custom North American builds but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Painted trims and parts have grown immensively over the last decade and keep on growing. A lot of attention should be paid to them in the next DLC.

Air Cleaner light bars should come separate from the cleaner itself, players should not be tied to a polished cleaner in order to use a nicer light bar or tied to a painted one without light bar because the nodes aren't separated. And both polished and painted light bars should be available, as well as blind mounted LED strips behing the bar itself, like the bottom image

Blind mount air cleaners are also a important piece for anyone looking to setup a clean build. In these cleaners, the bolts are hidden inside the top cap and the straps are not there in order to clean up the look

Deck plate mounted Air line boxes

Doorsteps should also be paid extra attention to. Trucks with DEF system have bigger DPF sidesteps on the passenger side and Gliders (Pre-Emission Engine) trucks can have smaller doorsteps and be identical on both sides.

Glider doorstep, note that in this case both are small and identical in either side:

And again, painted version of all the previous showcased parts are common to see and should be properly represented in-game

The rear fenders have two type of mountings, blind mounts and regular. The former is done from the bottom (See first picture) and the latter is either hooked to already existing bolts or through new drilled holes and should never be clipping through frame bolts

Great examples of custom 389's with great accessory examples and inspiration:

One thing that I can't stress enough is painted frames. They are a huge staple piece of any dignified custom truck. Separate color pick for the frame may not be possible and hard to be implemented, but at least body color matched in the same way the SCI wheels and dash trims from the W9 DLC are, could easily be implemented.

Also, the more stacks the better. There are quite a few that should come with the 389 DLC. And that's a point where the W9 DLC really didn't shine.

I would like to say that there are a lot of custom parts for Freightliner Classic, but we do not have Freightliner Classic in the game :? :(

Let's keep in mind that they are compatible with modern versions, not 1970's models :)

I am building an album of show trucks to show ALL sorts of customization options. I may have P379 included and while that isn't on purpose some trucks custom designs are difficult to tell apart! Nonetheless the parts are usually compatible but I hope this helps I will add more as I find them!

Hot dang the excitement is fueled fully!!! I'm finally getting to push a couple of ideas I've always wanted in game!! All for the Peterbilt!! Bless!! I definitely plan to add more to this list!

If separate color pick for the frame is not possible, then perhaps another option for the deck plate would be painted in the same color as the frame so that it blends in (for those that don't have black trucks).

See 7:30 of the video below (that is the Merrick deckplate as well - not sure if it was offered in the W900 tuning pack).

On the biggest sleeper offered for the Peterbilt 389 there are two options for the fairings - the long ones (currently in the game) and the short / California fairings (see video below at 2:15).
