While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

Improved Automatic Transmission

#1 Post by nemanja694 » 02 Mar 2024 15:06

Improved Automatic Transmission by NeX (nemanja694)

This mod improves behaviour of automatic transmissions on all SCS trucks to be more realistic. It changes gears based on the imput, meaning if you apply small ammount of throttle it will change gear sooner or if you press throttle more it will change later.

It is a very simple mod that adds realism to the game.

You MUST use it with either steering wheel or gamepad. It doesn't work on keyboard since it needs precise imputs.

You MUST set Adaptive Automatic Transmission to either "Normal Power" or "High Power" if you want to have kickdown.

Supports all SCS trucks.
For modded trucks you need to download addon from this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AwF7l4 ... kcq9q/view
You need to activate it on top of modded trucks that are from this list:

Mercedes-Benz Actros MP4 by Dotec
Mercedes-Benz Actros MP3 by Dotec
Mercedes-Benz Actros MP2 by Dotec
Volvo FH 2020 by KP TruckDesign Rework (Sanax)
Mercedes Benz New Actros 2019 by Wolli2017
RJL Scania G, R & Streamline by LoaderSaints
RJL Scania 4-series Addons by LoaderSaints
Next Generation Scania P G R S by Eugene
MAN TGX E6 by Gloover v.1.9 by Gloover
Volvo FH3 (V1.11) by johnny244
Jasper's DAF 2021 by Jasper
Scania PGR-Series by JUseeTV
Renault Magnum by knox_xss

It is compatible with sound mods that use standard SCS Def's for their engine sounds, i won't support custom def's from sound modders.

It is not compatible with "Drivetrain revision mod's by galimim", maybe in future if galimim wants it.

Enjoy.

Many thanks for posting this!
I have been toying around with these (not your) settings for ages, never really happy with my results.
So I enjoyed testing your setup as this is a fresh approach and gets me way closer to how I like it :-)

In trying to understand what you did, I am currently using the "rpm_range_high_gear: (900, 1120)" with the lower value being the start of the torque curve=1 and the higher value being the rpms at cruise speed.

Could you let me/us know, on which truck, with which engine, which transmission (direct/overdrive) and which differential ratio - or which rpm at cruise speed you came up with these values? It´s hard to see in the video :-)

Regarding the "rpm_range_low_gear" setting: what is you experience with this? IMHO the game doesn´t care much about it, and revs almost as high as it wants to. (I tried to implement "progressive shifting" a while ago and failed miserably...)

Many thanks again for posting this mod!

@al_batros
Originally I tested it with Scania S500. On video I used if I remember correctly (it was more then a year ago) a 480hp MAN d27 and I think it was OD gearbox. But it should work with all gearbox without a problem. It won't shift in higher gear if next gear would drop rpm lower then 880rpm on low gear and 900 rpm on high gear.

But there is honestly no nuclear physics about this. It is very simple as you already said you have rpm_range_low_gear and rpm_range_high_gear. Those 2 parameters are if I understood correctly only used when using adaptive automatic transmission, so SCS in 95% of their engines doesn't have any value set and game probably uses default 1000-1500rpm range as shift points. It seems game literally uses exact 1000 rpm and 1500 rpm for shifting and nothing in between.
So in order to bypass like you already know you put lower values but don't go too low as you will end up with gearbox shifting to too low gear and causing it to constantly shift up and shift down gear or suffocate engine. It is more of and trying to find a sweet spot.
It seems scs didn't develop fully this idea of adaptive automatic transmission as all 3 mods by default do nothing. With this mod you sacrifice 2 things. First you can't use it without adaptive automatic transmission and second eco mode is useless as it shifts to early always. So now Normal is kinda Eco mode and High Power is Normal-ish mode.

For the rpm_range_low_gear game actually cares about it too as it can shift early in lower gears and it can skip more gears if needed.

I know this might not be perfect but it is closest real automatic transmission behavior we can have in current version of game. I hope one day SCS will implement a proper simulation of automatic transmission and not having primitive one.

tl:dr you set those 2 parameters and game will do everything else.

Thank you for this mod! One of my biggest complaints with this game is the lack of proper automatic transmission simulation.

Hello

First of all, thank you for this modification... I've been looking for something like this for a long time...

I have a question:

It bothers me that the trucks accelerate very quickly as soon as you drive larger engines... the same applies to braking... is there a mod or can you give me any tips on how to adjust it... I drive with an Xbox controller...

thanks not even for this mod

I don't know if it is possible, but isn't logical that with larger and more powerful engines trucks accelerates faster ?
