Linux: Multi-monitor spanning stopped working

#1 Post by statikregimen » 02 Jun 2024 01:50

Hello,

Since 1.50 was released, I have not been able to get my 2nd monitor working. Previously, in 1.49 on the same system/OS, I had created a "multimon_config.sii" file, and it worked great. It looks like it's still reading that configuration correctly, but the game doesn't render to the 2nd monitor at all. I've tried reinstalling, as well as deleting the game configs & starting from scratch.

Not sure what else to provide or say that may help, so please let me know if there is anything. I've attached my latest game log & multi monitor config, for what it's worth. Haven't been able to find anyone else mention this issue.

Thanks for reading!

There has something changed in 1.50 with multi-monitor behavior. My triple screen layout also doesn't work like it did in 1.49 - mentioned in viewtopic.php?t=328452

I found a workaround with Gamescope, but this only works in windowed mode, which means you have to hide the task bar.

After you have installed Gamescope, you can add this line to start parameter in Steam Client:

Code: Select all

gamescope -W 4480 -H 1080 -b -- %command%
If the mouse is not grabbed by game window, try with this option:

Code: Select all

gamescope -W 4480 -H 1080 -b --force-grab-cursor -- %command%

Hi, thank you for the reply.

I went down the Gamescope route before, because at first, I didn't realize the game had native support. I didn't get great results. The main problem, is lack of perspective correction - the flat image across angled monitors make it look oddly warped. Previously, I had found a spreadsheet calculator online where I could just input my physical measurements for eye position, screen dimensions, and relative screen angles, and it would spit out the numbers for my config file...Without much tweaking, I had a beautiful view that in many ways, rivals VR, in terms of immersion.

Guess I'll mess around with it, since I can't do anything else with the game until an official fix is released but will probably just roll back to 1.49 until the devs fix it.

Thanks again!

I take that back. I am trying with Gamescope + my multimon config and the perspective correction is actually working. Makes sense that I had a bad result the first time, since back then, I did not have a multimon_config.sii file.

It's a bit clunky on my system. The game doesn't want to run with the Steam parameter. Instead, I have to start Steam in Gamescope, then launch the game from within.

Cheers.

Unfortunately there are very outdated versions of Gamescope in repositories even in recent distributions. There is a very active development, so a newer version can make the difference between doesn't work at all and working perfect.

For your distribution the provided version is 3.11.49 while the current version of Gamescope is 3.14.18 https://repology.org/project/gamescope/versions

Maybe you have to try compiling by yourself.

It seems like this issue has been mostly resolved.

I was using Gamescope successfully for several weeks, since it was suggested. Due to other, unrelated issues, I decided to upgrade to Debian Testing & switched to KDE from Cinnamon. Together, those choices resolved most other issues, so decided to test ATS again without Gamescope, and it is now spanning monitors correctly....ish....The only issue now, is it will not work in Full Screen (honestly, not sure it ever did), and it tries to launch on my secondary monitor. I'm able to super-key+drag to move it to the correct monitor.

In conclusion, it seems 90% resolved, given an updated-enough system.
