After 1.49, the retarder is permanently on. I have turned off anything related to it, and it still won't shut off. When I have the cruise set at 65mph, and start going down a hill, I hear hiss hiss hiss hiss hiss. Normally, when going down a hill with cruise set, the truck should continue to go faster until the Engine Brake is turned on. When I was driving for CR England in their Cascadia 2015 and 2018 models, and TransAm's 2015 T680, I loved doing steep downgrades. When you reach the top of a hill, you set the cruise at say 45mph and turn on the Engine Brake/Jake Brake, and it will stay at or around 45mph. if the Engine Brake is not on, the truck will continue to accelerate unless you get on the brakes.
But no matter what I set any options related to the retarder in ATS, I hear "Hiss hiss hiss hiss hiss hiss" and the truck stays at 65mph. Half the fun of mountain driving, is having to manually use the cruise control and Jake Brakes, and if the downgrade is steep enough, you might need to tap the brake pedal.
As you can see in my screenshots, I have everything set up for "no RETARDER", but I still hear hiss hiss hiss hiss and the air brakes are being actuated. It's to the point I don't even want to play ATS anymore. Is there a setting in a file I can change, or in the Dev Console?

Re: ATS Retarder Bug
Well, I was going to post 2 more screenshots, but it won't let me. I have chosen a transmission that has no Retarder or letter R in the name, and chose an engine that allows the Engine Brake to even come on. Some of my favorite engines won't even allow the Jake to come on anymore, especially after 1.50 was released.

Re: ATS Retarder Bug
Please follow the bug reporting process.
Game logs are important.
*Put screenshots on an image host and include the links here.
*Also a reminder, if you are doing a WOT contract your speed is limited to 65mph.
If not on a WOT contract, make sure you have the speed limiter turned off in game.

Which transmission specifically are you using?

Re: ATS Retarder Bug
Along with the Gameplay checkbox for Automatic Retarder(Which keeps checking itself and I have to keep unchecking it) needing unchecked, there is also in Keyboard button settings for Automatic Retarder and Retarder Decrease needed to be programed.

Re: ATS Retarder Bug
The automatic retarder option doesn't change how the retarder works with cruise control. This option only changes whether the retarder automatically engages when using the service brakes with the brake pedal.
For the retarder to activate when overspeeding with cruise control, it relies on the smart cruise control tolerance setting.
However, you also said that you are having the retarder activate despite using a transmission that you believe does not have a retarder. Which is why I ask again, which transmission specifically are you using?

Re: ATS Retarder Bug
That's really easy to solve.
Simply deactivate smart cruise control
