NFL (American) Football Pick-Em Thread 2025

#1 Post by oldmanclippy » 08 Aug 2024 23:27

I love fantasy football, but I think it would be tough to organize a live draft for people on this website and run a "traditional" fantasy football season. Being internet strangers some might bail and then we'd be left with a half-populated league.

So my proposal would be for every person interested in playing to post their picks of the winning team of each NFL game, and then we keep track of the records of each user over the course of the season.

No money involved, just for fun.

The rules:
  • Every week on Tuesday morning US time, oldmanclippy will post a template in this thread for users to fill out with their picks
  • Anyone who is interested, even if they haven't participated in previous weeks, can use the template to post their picks for the winners of each game. You must try to pick every game that week for your entry to count! Obviously, common-sense exceptions will be made.
  • Each pick will lock at the start of that game. If you want to change a pick you made after the start of the first game of the week, then please make a new post for it so it's easy to understand. Example post: viewtopic.php?p=2004215#p2004215
  • Also on Tuesday mornings, oldmanclippy will provide updates with the prior week's results, as well as the overall standings.
  • Repeat until the end of the season. Week 18 will be the final week of the regular season pick-em game, but we'll also do a separate pick-em game for the playoffs just for fun.
  • In order to be eligible for winning the correct pick percentage category, you must participate in at least half of the weeks, which would be 9 weeks.
There will be two categories that you can win at the end of the season (there are no prizes besides bragging rights):
  • user with the best correct pick percentage over at least 9 weeks
  • user with the most overall correct picks (if you want to win this category, you should try to participate every week!)
If you are interested, make sure you subscribe to this thread so you get notified when templates, reminders, results, etc are posted. And if you know of anyone on the forum who might be interested, point them in the direction of this thread. Looking forward to playing!

Also, if you decide to participate, you should also mention your favorite NFL team so there can be another layer to the friendly competition :D

I'm a Vikings fan, thank you in advance for your condolences

I'll post the first picks template on Tuesday, September 3rd. So again, if you're interested make sure you subscribe to the thread so you can be notified when that happens!

I'm in! Been a Football fan for a long time but recently started full-time watching in 2020, I usually watch RedZone because the best of the best is usually on that channel with the live highlights.

Green Bay Cheesehead here. Don't exactly recall how I became a Packers fan, but I believe I was on social media and a follower of mine and someone I followed was a Packers fan, so I decided to copy him and become one myself.

My father is a 49ers fan, and he is die-hard with the support for his team, despite having a rough 21st century so far with 3 straight Super Bowl losses including one just this past SB with the Chiefs. We're planning on going to the Tampa Bay game in Week 10 because I usually like going to games if possible, despite being only to two thus far (Packers @ Buccaneers Week 6 2020, 49ers @ Jaguars Week 11 2021)

I just joined a NFL Fantasy league recently with my brother and his friends and I really loved the draft, here's who I got (not in draft order):

QB Patrick Mahomes, KC
RB Bijan Robinson, ATL
RB De'von Achane, MIA
WR Devante Adams, LV
WR Devonte Smith, PHI
TE Kyle Pitts, ATL
D/ST PIT Steelers
K Ka'imi Fairbairn, HOU
WR George Pickens, PIT
WR Christian Watson, GB
RB Tony Pollard, TEN
TE Pat Freiermuth, PIT
RB Chuba Hubbard, CAR
QB Justin Herbert, LAC
WR Gabe Davis, JAX

I think that's a packed team for the most part, I picked on not just talent but also expectations, really excited for this football season and that's why I shared my draft class. :smirk:

Not too bad. How many players in the league? 8, 10 or 12? And what was your draft order.....assuming yall went with a live draft. I have a company league and my boss invited me to his friends league. We drafted Saturday during the Cowboy game. Had a blast. I was tipsy when I was drafting in the later rounds and I picked two people my mistake. One was in my que, the other wasn't. But I didn't mean to select Sutton. I will end up dropping for another QB for Patrick's by week.

Those both look like pretty good teams. Looks like you both got a couple #1's at their respective positions. My draft this year is going to be right before the season starts so not much time between drafting and setting our week 1 lineups.

Last year I had the first pick and went with Justin Jefferson :? I managed to scrape together a decent season regardless, but yeah not the luckiest 1st overall pick, between his own injury and Kirk going down. This year I'm hoping for a nice 4th/5th/6th pick, since I'm not a huge fan of having to make back-to-back picks in snake drafts. Too stressful!

I always say I'll stay away from Vikings players, both due to wanting to "hedge my fandom", and due to my general Vikings cynicism. But somehow I always end up with at least one. Maybe I'll try to get Will Reichard, our rookie kicker from Alabama. He might finally give us reason to be confident in the Kicker position. Maybe, lol

There are 10 players in our league (ESPN) and we had a live draft.

There were some players I wanted to get, like Khalil Shakir (I have bias there since Khalil's father and my father are good friends, plus I just recently met Khalil's father for the first time, awesome dude by the way) but he went off the board in the last round (I chose Gabe Davis instead, my brother told me it was a great pick) and I had the second pick in the first round so my heart was set on Tyreek Hill, but I decided to prioritize the running game first and chose Bijan over Hill. My father kept telling me to get Justin Jefferson if he was available but I chose Devonte Smith over him for expectation reasons. I also wanted to get Justin Tucker from BAL but he went off the board a few picks before I could get him.

My father has been doing fantasy for years with his workplace, so he knows the ins and outs of the whole drafting process and I managed to follow his advice and cook up a good core.

Fantasy is awesome. I've been playing since 2007 and got hooked, lol. The past 2 years I've been in 2 leagues. I use to just do one. One for work always then one of my bosses has a friend league and they were short a guy last year so I got invented. We do live draft parties in both leagues and they are just as fun as the season itself, lol.

Tomorrow I have my office draft. Its always interesting to see how each league compares. We also only play with 10 players but we do Yahoo. I like the customization for points.
