I still had a few questions about the new Truck Control System, but I saw the original poster of the last thread requested that their’s be locked (which it has as of this writing), so…I’m going to start a new one (and maybe start a general discussion thread about it + other peripherals in general!).
I’m thinking about getting it as an upgrade to my current setup, which is a Logitech G29 and a Thrustmaster TH8A with a cheap shifter extension that I found on Amazon.
I know for sure I’ve got three comments/questions about it:
- I saw the wheel’s a lot bigger than the G29’s (and the XBox equivalent whose G-number I forget) and the steering range is about doubled.
- What’s the build quality like, for those who purchased one and have used it already?
- Was setup pretty easy out of the box? How are the desk clamps?

Re: Hori Truck Control System Discussion Thread
I've driven a combined 5,000 (3k in ATS, 2k in ETS2) in-game miles already with the HORI Truck Control System. I have tinkered with many control options with the truck and I have to say, it's DEFINITELY an upgrade over what I had before (Thrustmaster T248 I bought in 2021 with a TH8A shifter I bought in 2019).
To answer your questions.
- Yes, the wheel is much larger than the G29 and T248/T150, you could lay your whole hand on it while driving technically.
- It's too early to tell, but so far my unit is holding up very well, no notable issues whatsoever and the wheel steers much better than the T248 (the HORI is lightyears of a better steering unit, in all honesty).
- I ran into early issues setting it up on a stand/rig I had since 2020. In 2020, my neighbors moved to Texas (they're back in Florida now due to other personal reasons) and gave me their table for free, my old table (an L-shape desk), was falling apart and was able to have my wheel and shifter clamp onto it with no issues, but when I got the new table set up, I saw that my T150 (the wheel I had at the time) and the TH8A wouldn't clamp on right to the table, so I bought a rig/stand from Amazon and used that since. I have since put that rig in my closet because I can now clamp on the HORI wheel and shifter onto my table with little to no issues. It's going to be dependent on what table you have, I had to remove the flat clamp part off the wheel because it was impeding with the setup onto the table (I want to thank HORI for making that piece detachable since I can now use the wheel on a table and I wasn't going to have to go out and buy either a new table or rig stand, it was a "life saver" for me).
For frequent Lane Assist users like me, I found a way to make Lane Assist usable with the wheel, but control options may vary by truck. I have Assisted Steering at 65% and vary the steering sensitivity between 1.00 and 1.50, biggest thing to making it usable is to set the artificial Internal Friction to 0% as having it above 0 impedes massively with minor auto steering corrections.
Would I recommend it? Well, I'd say if you have the money, and play ETS2 and ATS as your main games and/or have or will put lots of hours into it, go right ahead and buy one. The endless amount of buttons at your disposal to use is a massive plus, and having turn signals on the side along with a European Truck style shifter on the other side is an immersion plus. the Shifter feels great too and has all the gears you are going to need.

Re: Hori Truck Control System Discussion Thread
@Brendan0620 - That’s a great write up! I have an L-shaped desk at home myself and it accommodates my G29 nicely so hopefully the steering wheel will fit. The only games I play that use a wheel and pedals are ATS and ETS2 and it clamps right onto it.
@jdwarfer - Nice! I’m planning on making a decision on it this week sometime and will order it next week if I decide to get it.

Re: Hori Truck Control System Discussion Thread
It is, without a doubt, the best investment I've made towards my experience playing ETS2 and ATS. I didn't think in all my near 10 years of playing both games that I'd ever see a truck simulator wheel that you could buy a set of, but once I saw it and saw that I had money in my bank account, I knew I had to buy it.
You can also adjust the turning radius, currently, I have mine set around 900* (can't remember which exactly) to enjoy the Lane Assist usage that I constantly use for the wheel. I have my wheel FFB set to 10 and in-game FFB at 200%, it feels too loose at 100% and 200% just feels right.
My T248 was notchy and rough driving with the Truck Simulator, I had to wrestle that wheel constantly and it was really rough driving, but the Truck wheel from HORI just feels easy to use and it large for me, I feel comfortable turning the wheel and all the buttons are at my fingertips, a massive upside as I said before.

For the best balance between realism and drivability in ATS, I recommend 1440 degrees. Thats what I use for personal play. On streams I use 1080 because I'm often multi-tasking and could use one less thing to focus on lol

Thanks for the thread!
I'm planning to buy one too, but would like to read/hear some reviews first.

There's a YouTuber named DirtyDog that's been posting videos regularly about the HORI.
Even though I wish more would come, I think I still might pick up the controller.

More and more reviews are starting to come to youtube. Pretty much everyone complain about the left stick being very short. And I totally agree, it looks very short.
