I have a feeling that the driving proficiency module is going to cause a few flashbacks to the parking garage in the first Driver game.

My opinion on the new chapters is negative, it seems it is very much down to luck and patience alot of the time. I am 21/26 out of 26 but I really don't even want to turn on the game anymore as I'm 12hrs in and just fed up with it all.

To improve/fix this I would do some/all of the following:
  • Remove any link to steam achievements - this makes it optional for those who are enjoying it and want to test themselves
  • Change the star system - it would revamp from 3 star to a 4 star bronze to platinum system, the current criteria could be kept in platinum rank and then reduced difficulty down to bronze
  • Add checkpoints - I found I was doing large sections fine, but going back through them again and hitting something because you were a pixel off this run was frustrating
  • Just have the truck turn on - when you're doing attempt #12 I just want the truck on and get going rather than electricity then on
  • Change chapter 4 - it seems to be based alot more on luck and amount of patience than any of the others

I guess I'm also annoyed because chapters 1 & 2 were really great and I enjoyed doing them as they improved my skills and immersion in the main game when I put what I'd been taught into practise, Chapter 3 while abit annoying was pretty good putting to the test the skills from the previous chapters into scenarios that were somewhat relevant to the main game, I didn't take more than 7 attempts on the harder ones. Chapter 4 seems to be setup to wind you up with some very unreal situations to get through, it doesn't help when the collision detection is slightly off too so when you're repeating it you can fail before getting to the section you need (see checkpoint note above).

I think you worry too much about the stars and the challenge, just do it without worrying about all that and you'll see that it's just as enjoyable and achievable ;).

The stars are there for an extra challenge for those skilled players who might find the pass conditions a bit easy. There was never an expectation from us that casual players would somehow insist that they must have 3 stars, even if it meant crashing their way through it until they made it on luck.

As for checkpoints, they aren't necessary. IRL, hitting a cone on your CDL test is an instant fail, which means waiting weeks for another appointment to attempt it again. If the worst you have to do is restart, turn on the engine and release the parking break... well I'd say we went pretty easy on you guys :)

I just wanted to keep my 100% achievement up, I've no problem backing up anywhere in the main game. Guess I'll just switch to being a casual

It says before you log in that it's not to substitute anything in a CDL, now it is...

Well, I'm back to the game after 2 1/2 year break to try the Driving Academy. I just completed the basics and I must say SCS has done an amazing job. Looking forward to challenges in the proficiency section. It is awesome to finally see something resembling Trucks & Trailers and Scania Truck Driving in the North American environment. The best part is that it is not a separate game and not even a DLC. Decision to make it part of the base game is very generous. Thank you for this, SCS.

As of basic courses, they surely aren't challenging for experienced drivers, but I found them fun to do for achievements and refreshing my skills after the break. I think the basics give sufficient instructions to the new players to be ready for most situations while driving in the game. Great course designs and visual presentation. And great potential to expand to the Coaches and Road Trip.

I will report back after completing proficiency section that I'm sure will take more time to complete.

P.S. I was genuinely surprised that only 0.6% of players (as of today) received Dedicated Student achievement for completing the basics courses.

And hitting another truck will result in reimbursing damage and probably expelling. Yet the time limits encourage you to do it during dozens of retries.
