Low-Hanging Fruit Wishlist

Some of these ideas apply to both games, some only to ETS2. Basically just wanted to write down some things that theoretically should be easy additions/fixes that would add up to significant improvement for the game(s):
  • More accurate and higher resolution license plates. This thread by Pasztecior goes over the inaccuracies with many countries' license plates. One example: the license plates in Germany are not regionalized (like they are in France and Austria, for example), and the safety test stickers should not be on the front plates. When you zoom in you can see a faint outline of where the Bundesland sticker should be, but isn't, which makes it worse. See this post for details about the German plates in particular: viewtopic.php?p=1999005#p1999005
  • Coming in 1.60! -> Configurable sleep duration within the user interface. I know you can use g_set_time, but it's tedious and non-immersive to break out the keyboard for that task.
  • A "Welcome to <country name>" message popping up when crossing a border, similar to ProMods. I think it should only pop up at controlled border crossings though, as that would mimic a border guard saying it to you, whereas at an uncontrolled crossing no one is there to tell you it. Maybe locals would think it's silly, but I think it'd be cool. This would apply to California in ATS as well as when crossing to/from Canada/Mexico in the future.
  • More information on the country/state flag button at the top bar of the home screen. Things such as currency, population, trailer laws, etc would be really helpful. Right now it just says the speed limits, and it seems like a missed opportunity to not include more information for educational and novelty purposes. During the Idaho release stream when discussing the then-new viewpoint feature, Pavel mentioned that he hoped the games could be used for educational purposes in the future, but that hasn't really happened yet. Speaking of which:
  • Text information alongside viewpoints. Viewpoints should have some text on the bottom of the screen explaining why that viewpoint is interesting or important, for educational purposes.
  • Special Transport route completion tracker. Stole this idea from user poludei. If you want to keep track of which ST routes you've completed (for achievement purposes or just for fun) you have to manually write them down. Some sort of in-game tracker would fix that.
  • Better billboard placement in ATS. Billboard placement is one of the biggest immersion killers in ATS. We have Dr Hammer billboards everywhere in Missouri even though there are no Dr Hammer locations there. We have Space Center Houston billboards everywhere even though it really only makes sense to have them in Texas and maybe OK/AR/LA. We have rotted/burnt out billboards in major metropolises that look like they belong in Fallout 3. And perhaps most ridiculous, there are billboards all over the map for the El Paso airport, and those billboards should only be in far west Texas / southeast New Mexico. A common sense pass of billboard positioning would do wonders for immersion.
I'll keep adding to this list as I think of things or if others suggest them in this thread.

Great ideas here! About that last one, I never thought of that before but that's an excellent idea! :)
Having multiple text popups with short blurbs about what the cinematic camera's currently showing you.
