Details above 700m are not visible in the map editor

#1 Post by Triplexmazi » 02 Apr 2025 22:58

as far as I can see, terrain details are not visible when editing above 700 meters. stone, grass, flowers etc.

is there a way to increase the detail distance?

The max view distance is 1500. Did you perhaps accidently changed something in "View->Visibility Display Range"? With the "Apply view dIstance limits" box checked?

No, I'm not talking about that. When adding terrain, the grass, stone, flowers etc. on the terrain are not visible, that is, the details are not visible. There is no problem if the altitude is below 700 meters.
I'm sure there's a way to fix this. But I need help :)

I'm not aware of such a general limitation. Of course there is less detailed presentation, depending on the circumstances.

EDIT: If it is about real tiny objects, it should be hard to notice on such a distance, so I'm not sure if I understand the problem. Maybe I don't.

He makes a map with the altitude of 700m and above. The details stop rendering at such altitude even if you are close to them. That's what he's saying.

yes that's exactly what i said

As seen in the pictures, terrain details are no longer visible above 700 meters.Even if I get very close it is not visible. This makes my job difficult when creating maps.

I understand, I mistook it for a camera height problem. Yes, I can reproduce it by elevating some road segments above that value.

Now, I checked some few spots of road/terrain in the Alps (SCS map). The highest parts of terrain meshes I could find, serving as summits of hills, was something about 500 meter. And these spots were far from the road, which itself was much lower. So I guess while it could be an engine limitation, it doesn't look like a problem for the SCS mapping team. But I have not checked ATS.

Maybe a dev can tell more.

Yes. There is no height exceeding this limit in the original map. If the height is exceeded, the editor warns with an error message. It may be due to the engine limitation you mentioned.

but I think I can solve this from code or config files. I hope a developer can help.

I suspect SCS are the only ones who can do anything and that heights above 700m are not currently supported.
