oldmanclippy's Truckspotting Pics

#1 Post by oldmanclippy » 16 Apr 2025 22:15

I'm going to use this thread to show some of the pictures I've taken (and will take in the future) of trucks both in North America and Europe. I don't often find myself in prime position to get good pictures when I'm on trips, but sometimes it works out.

This initial batch is small because apparently most of the photos I take are pretty blurry.

Here's a fun one to start with: one of the Peterbilt 579s they use to transport the famous Budweiser Clydesdale horses. This picture was taken at Brat Fest in Madison, Wisconsin in May 2023, and they paraded the Clydesdales around which was super cool. They are wayyyyyy larger in person than I had anticipated, absolutely massive animals.

This is a truck I liked enough to make my profile picture here. A MAN TGX 3rd gen rigid with swap body trailer pulling out of the SAP Garden dock in Munich, Germany in December 2024. Can't wait to drive a config like this in the game.

The International LoneStar (R.I.P.) is probably my favorite modern truck from an exterior aesthetics point of view, so I always enjoy seeing them in the wild. This one was parked at some sort of big box store (I can't remember) somewhere in the Twin Cities metro area in September 2021.

I'm a big fan of a black truck pulling a black trailer, I just regret that I didn't get a landscape shot of what I believe is a MAN TGX 2nd gen facelift on the R30 in Bruges, Belgium in March 2023.

It's always cool to see "special transport" style loads: the first one is a couple prefab buildings on I-90 somewhere between Chamberlain and Wall, South Dakota in August 2021. Not sure if that white car between them is some sort of "pilot car in the middle" or real life strange AI behavior

And the second one is a big tank on I-35 somewhere between Burnsville and Owatonna, Minnesota in September 2023, but this one did not need a police escort.

I'm really bad at identifying trucks that aren't in the game, but I think this is a MAN TGL 2nd gen facelift in Innsbruck, Austria in December 2024.

Finally we have a picture taken by oldwomanclippy, which is probably still the best of the bunch even though the windshield is in the way: a nice parade of trucks on the A830 west of Fort William, Scotland in September 2023.

These are probably the only ones I have that are worth sharing right now (lots of blurry pictures taken from a moving bus/train/car :P), but I'm planning a road trip to Toronto and Niagara Falls this summer (there via the Mackinac Bridge, and back via I-90), so I'm hoping to have some new pictures to share after that.

I did not get a lot of pics on my road trip to Ontario (was quite busy and had a passenger who I didn't want to bother with stopping all the time to get truck pics :P), but I did get one I figured I'd share here:

Nothing particularly special about this Peterbilt 389 379 at the Angola Service Area on I-90 eastbound in upstate New York, but I just think it's a nice looking truck that I'd like to replicate in the game when/if the 389 gets reworked.

Ah, very nice! :) Interesting how much it resembles the 379 when you just swap the headlights, haha!

It honestly might be a 379, Iโ€™m terrible at telling the difference between them.

@oldmanclippy Ah, gotcha โ€“ย maybe this could be of help? :)
Lil something I've just thrown together.

Image sources below:
- Peterbilt 359 (single headlights)
- Peterbilt 359 (dual headlights)
- Peterbilt 379 (dual headlights)
- Peterbilt 389
- Peterbilt 567
- Peterbilt 589

One thing to note, the 379 was also offered with single rectangular headlights; though I believe duals are a lot more common.

Thanks, yeah based on that I think it's maybe a 379? The hood looks a bit too short for a 389.

You're very welcome! :) Yeah, I'd say that's a 379 as well.

Of course it can quickly get tricky to tell what truck's what when owners start swapping
headlights, but yeah โ€“ Generally, when headlights are kept stock, that is what they look like.
