Anything that can count supports raytracing. You can do raytracing with a pen and paper. The only question is time it takes, i.e. performance.
You're thinking of GPUs with specific hardware to accelerate raytracing. They are not always necessary.

I’m not sure where this fear of ray tracing came from but it is by far the better way to render certain things. And it’s optional.JoeAlex23 wrote: 19 Jul 2026 21:46 If is not computationally expensive (even in a properly optimized game engine) then is not proper Ray Tracing, just rendering tricks, which have been used for decades before Ray Tracing became mainstream.
Alright fair enough.JoeAlex23 wrote: 19 Jul 2026 22:44 Nobody is denying how good RT can look, there is no fear behind it, is just that most of the time RT is not worth the performance hit if you don't have the proper hardware just for things to look better, you know what RT is currently amazing for? Static rendering.
Devs have the ability to lock, unlock, and post in locked threads. It is their work area.FierbetoN wrote: 19 Jul 2026 17:00 I said locked, as in no further discussion or feedback from an actual dev, on a locked topic. Clearly I'm not the confused one here.
Without GPU support the rendering uses the CPUSan_Sany4 wrote: 19 Jul 2026 21:55 Anything that can count supports raytracing. You can do raytracing with a pen and paper. The only question is time it takes, i.e. performance.
