It got up to 39C here on Tuesday, but this morning it dropped to 12C. It's so nice to have low humidity . Inside I keep the temperature at 26-27C using AC.

My home has no upper floor; it's a single-story house, all on one level. So, needless to say, with temperatures as high as this, the temperature inside rises very quickly. Right now, it's close to 39 degrees Celsius inside the house.

Don't you open the windows at night? Here it goes down to 18° in the early morning.
With 4 windows open all night, we keep 26 inside when it's 10 more outside.
We close doors, windows (not M$'s ) and curtains at 11am o' clock. And lots of fans.

Here, from around 9:00 or 9:30 p.m. in the evening, we open the doors. The doors are open, but, how can I put it, the temperature doesn't drop very much. Last night, I managed to get the temperature down to 24 degrees inside the house, but tonight, it's not dropping. At the same time, where I live in France, we're expecting two tropical nights starting tonight. So the lowest temperatures won't drop below 26 degrees, or possibly 25 degrees. So yeah, it's pretty difficult to cool the house down.

And during the day, I can guarantee you that all my shutters are closed. From around 8:30, 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning, all the shutters are closed. There's nothing left open to prevent the sunlight from getting inside. But, well, a single-story house, all on one level, is really difficult in this kind of weather because there's practically no roof space above you. It's basically just the ceiling and then the roof, so it's difficult to keep the house cool.

Sorry in advance for the three posts in a row, but I had a problem and couldn't manage to publish everything in a single post. And besides, there's not really much point in investing in air conditioning either, because I live in the north of France, really far north, in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. It's not exactly a region known for its high temperatures, so it's pretty rare for us to get summers like this. In fact, according to what they're saying on the weather reports, we haven't had a summer like this since 1968. Or maybe 1973 — I'm not entirely sure.

It will happen more often from now one, so it might be not a bad idea to invest in one, doesn't have to be a full-sized one with hard installation, but there are portable ones also, at least to cool off the bedroom to sleep. This is why I would always build a basement if I ever do own my own house, for days like these, underground and cool.

Ah yes, the basement idea is actually a really good one. I do have a cellar, but it's a small one and you can't stand upright in it, so, uh... it's a bit complicated. But yeah, it's true that investing in a proper basement now is something we should probably think about more and more with climate change. It's not a bad idea.
