This is why I would always build a basement if I ever do own my own house, for days like these, underground and cool.

Actually, the basement idea is a great one. I have a two-story house, and the roof has three thick layers of insulation. But that still doesn't keep the sun from heating up the rooms in the hot summer. I wish I'd thought of a deep basement from the start, haha.

If the sun is bombarding your house, I doubt even the best insulation will prevent it from heating up, windows are one way for the sun to get in also, and large surfaces also, and if your roof is black to boot you are even more screwed.

The problem is that my house is exposed to sunlight from around 9:30 in the morning until 8:30 in the evening.

Luckily here it cools down quickly enough after sunset that I can just open the windows for a bit before going to sleep, and it'll be cool enough for the rest of the night. Leaving them open would be a bad idea because of the 40-50 dogs on my street . Hedgehogs or street cats will find their way into a yard and at least one dog will go berzerk. That's a given for most nights .

Ah well, of course, since you live in your car, you obviously have air conditioning I should ask my boss if I can live in the truck too, in that case, with the air conditioning !

For work I have to drive a Mercedes Sprinter Altas (Altas is a company in Lithuania that converts cargo vans, mostly Mercedes Sprinters into passenger busses), and when the sun is out, it gets to over 40 C inside, even during a short break. And AC doesn't really help much. Spending there 10 or more hours is not very fun, to say the least.

Company saving money by not maintaining the AC, if it is properly looked after you could "freeze" in a car, or maybe the builder cheaped out to put in a bigger AC if it is converted from cargo to passenger, because it wouldn't make sense to AC cargo in the back.
