Re: SCS General Nonsense Thread
I am not moaning dont know how you came to that conclusion? I have accepted the widgets it is as is, i am questioning SCS decision to scrap RA and do widgets, then introduce a tab based system ontop of widgets.
SCS own words from blog about new widgets:
The original Route Advisor did an incredible job for a long time, but it was reaching a point where it could no longer grow without becoming cluttered, unclear, or restrictive. Adding more and more information into a single panel meant compromises: hidden states, missing feedback, and tab switching while driving.
A long list of reasons why RA was not up to the task especially that tab swicthing was a problem when driving, but a new MDF system which is the same in different form with tab switching when driving, is now new intuitive and better way to do it. Just questioning, because it seems confusing to me, and from my pov as a customer it seems SCS are not following a certain plan but just update these things on the willy nilly, saying one thing then do a 180 few months later.

I will agree that it sounds silly to go from “tabs are bad” being the impetus behind one UI change to “maximize tab usage” being the result of another
Almost feels like two designers are fighting for control behind the scenes.

I think there were two different philosophies and deadlines for designing the new RA and this MFD and it certainly wouldn’t be impossible to have tabs back on the Route Advisor in the future.
I also don’t see the big deal tbh

In fact, they could have redesigned Route Advisor to work with the controller; they could simply merge the F6 and F7 tabs and have everything in one place. Then you would have F5 for the map and F6 and F7 for other information (delivery details and damage), and with a button on the controller you could switch between the two tabs.San_Sany4 wrote: 13 Jun 2026 09:28 You don't get it. Route Advisor had wrong, confusing, bad, ugly tabs. They had too much information and panels crammed and mashed, and RA was impossible to use with a controller (and anyone who said otherwise was clearly brainwashed by anti-console PC master race propaganda).
This new MFD system is completely different. It has right, intuitive, good, beautiful tabs. They have just enough info perfectly spaced around, and are easy to use with a controller.

MFD is very useful because there are practically no free keys left on the keyboard to assign different functions to them.

I hoped my sarcasm in that message was so thick everyone would understand it is sarcasm.

Things change*, but that doesn't mean evolution. I don't mind things changing, I really liked the change to the flat UI for example, but a lot of these changes just feel either unnecessary, clunky or amateurish. The internal UI mechanics are still the same old just used a bit differently.
Right now I keep getting the F keys messed up, I can't coordinate to move my seat properly anymore, I can't pause to read signs anymore, the widgets menu is old fashioned and the widgets themselves can't be moved around which should have been in from the beginning as one of the key changes (as a result, the right hand side column has surpassed half the screen).
The aversion to complaining helps no one. If one doesn't like something, there is no reason he should not say it.
