Interactive icons not loading

I am experiencing an issue where the interactive icons ie., viewpoints, fuel stations, company job offer portals, parking spaces, etc. don't load. Everything works if I am able to guess and park where they should be, but in many cases such as large company facilities where the icon could be in multiple places it makes it unplayable. I have tried restarting the game, verifying game files, and reinstalling the game and the issue persists. Same problem on ETS2 although they did not start concurrently. I'm playing 100% vanilla on MacOS.

Sounds like you've turned of game elements. when in game open the dev console and copy/paste the following:

g_show_game_elements "1"

then hit enter.

Is it possible for me to have done that by accident? I've never used the dev console on either game. I also have no idea how to activate it.

You can fix it by editing the profile specific config.cfg file.

There's either a game issue that randomly sets it to 0 or possibly mods can do it.

I have this exact problem, but I cannot find g_show_game_elements in my profile specific config at all

Chances are you are looking in the global config file then.

If you use cloud, the files are at somewhere like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<numbers>\270880\remote\profiles\<profileid>

It should be line 21 right underneath the one for game blockers.

I still haven't been able to resolve this. I can't find the appropriate files on my computer. When I open the application scripts in the library, nothing related to ATS comes up. Can anyone help me figure out where to go from here?

The location is something like

C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\American Truck Simulator 2\profiles\<profileid>

*Username is the username on your PC.
<profileid> - Each profile is stored as hexadecimal value.

Inside this directory there will be a config.cfg file with uset g_show_game_elements in it.

If you use steam cloud, then the location is under steam instead:

\Steam\userdata\<numbers>\270880\remote\profiles\<profileid>

*numbers here relates to user ID in steam
<profileid> - Each profile is stored as hexadecimal value.

coming back to this after giving up in frustration some time ago; is there anything that I can look up that will walk me through this step by step? I'm not good with computers and am quite stuck as to what to do
