FPS tanks after a few minutes (cockpit view)

#1 Post by Rivanov » 27 Aug 2025 17:41

Since a few weeks (don't know exactly when it started to happen) I have this issue where my FPS tanks after a few minutes.
Down from my locked 60FPS to approx 40 and sometimes even lower.

I'm running a 9800x3D with RTX 5090FE and 64GB RAM. So a beefy spec.
Also use triple 32" monitors with NVIDIA Surround.

Resolution (after bezel correction) 7760x1440
In-game scaling set to 400% and Anti-Aliasing set to SMAA + TAA.
TAA tuning set to Adaptive Clarity.

Everything set to High or Ultra.

My PC isn't breaking any sweat. CPU usage is 18% and GPU usage 45%.

Didn't had any problems before.. it happens in both ATS and ETS 2.

It's only in cockpitview.. external view is locked 60!

Game isnt optimized for better pc, only runs on single core. So it doesnt matter how good is your pc at some point. I have rtx3060 and its impossible to run game at max settings with fps above 60 and no stuttering.
You can try setting these graphics options: Im playing with those and game should run much better

Scaling - 300%
Anti-aliasing - TAA + SMAA
Texture quality - High
Anisotropic filtering- x16
Normal maps - On
Reflection scaling 100%
Reflection detail - High
Mirror quality - High
Mirror resolution - High
Mirror distance - High
Shadow quality - Ultra
Far shadows - On
Interior shadows - On
SSAO - Off
Light visibility ranges - High
Traffic headlights - On
Secondary vehicle lights - Off
DOF - Off
Sunshafts - On
Vegetation detail - High
Grass density - High
Weather quality - Ultra
Pedestrians - On

Then go to config file and change this values:
uset t_averaging_window_duration "x" <-- set this to monitor's default refresh rate
uset t_averaging_window_length "y" <-- set this to 2x the monitor refresh rate
Change the r_buffer_page_size to 50

Thanks! But when I start the game it works perfect for 5 or 10 minutes. Locked 60FPS without a single hiccup.
But after that the FPS goes down to approx 40FPS and stays there.

When I switch to external cam, the FPS immediately goes back to 60FPS.
As soon as I go back to internal cam, it goes back to 30/40FPS.

Very very strange.

Mods?
You can also try reinstalling the game.
But to my knowledge the interior cam always consume the most fps. Beacause the game would need to render interior and all other things in cabin like accesories. And those things can impact fps

I understand. But why does it happen after 5 or 10 minutes. Where the first 5 or 10 minutes are just perfect and rocksolid 60FPS (capped via Rivatuner)
And than totally random, all of a sudden the FPS drops to < 40 and stays there. Switch to external.. back to 60FPS.
Switch back to internal, drop to < 40.

Maybe high temps on cpu or gpu? And that would result in a termal throttling. If without mods its happening and also after a game reinstall then maybe some issues with your pc hardware or software or some kind of issue with game that its happening only at certain pc specs. If that would be the case then maybe bug report here: viewforum.php?f=187 with following bug report instruction: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16653 Other than that I dont know why it would happen.

Think I have solved it by removing the dxgi.dll + dinput8.dll files from Snowymoon's TAA mod.
Eventhough I disabled the mod in-game, it seems the game still used these files. After removing them from gamefolder, the game stays rock solid 60 FPS so far after longer periods.
